1970 280SL Tune Up Issues
« on: November 22, 2020, 02:40:57 »
Looking for thoughts on 1970 280SL tune up.
Valves adjusted, linkage adjusted.
Replaced points, condenser, cap and rotor .
The car will not start.
I am getting sparks at sparks plugs, after some point gap adjustment. Sometimes no spark at all. Dwell seems high 50 when I do get a reading. Setting gap at 0.3 and 0.4mm and larger.

Open Points Testing.  Ignition switch on, both sides of 0.4 ohm resistor measured 11.38 V,  0.6 ohm resistor measured 0 volts.

Closed point testing. Ignition switch on, coil measured 2.91 v (s/b 2.6-3.5),  open points reading 0 v (s/b 0).

Coil measure 12 V

Planning to go back to previous parts and see what happens.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Update,
Reinstalled old part...car runs fine again.
I think the new points were shorting to the distributor body. Old had positive clearance
O'well all is fine now. ...issue resolved.
Be sure to inspect carefully before and after any changes.

I think we have heard several times about lot of Bosch points being faulty. Maybe this is part of this lot.
