Ground Wire attached to back of Tachometer
« on: May 01, 2024, 20:26:01 »
Hi, getting things back together.  It was a Bear to get the Tach back in.  I could barely get my hand and figures up to get that little nut on the back of the Bracket.  I have been trying to reach back up with the little Brown Ground wire but I just cannot get it up there, get the nut off, put it on and then tighten again.  Question... Does it need to ground to that point?  Is it doing anything for the Tach?   Or can I just attach it somewhere else to the frame?  If it has to go there I will keep trying.  I think if I take the light control switch out I might have a better shot.  But if I do that I probably just have to extend the length of the ground wire...
Thanks
A

This is the ground wire for the tach bulbs, so it needs to be connected. it should reach, maybe it's snagged or it's incorrectly routed from where it attaches to the body, assume the ground point behind the ignition switch

I think this is the best if not the only place for this ground wire, I am afraid...

It is the ground for the tacho illumination.

ok I will work on it.  It comes out of the coil of wires that go tot he light control.  So it does not go from the Tach to frame.  Any tricks?  Or do I just need to find a friend with smaller hands to squeeze in there an do it.  Maybe if I take the vents out again it will be easier.  I will stare at it and see if I am missing something.
Thanks for the bad news!  Haha.

I had to have my daughters do it for me. No need to remove the vents.

I'm working on the gauges right now and there have been a lot of expletives. The speedo cable would not reach to re-attach after I replaced the gasket on the speedo to dash. The oil line to back of the central cluster would not reach. Dreading the tacho.. I also had it come apart when I took it out, so now starting a separate thread about that (weeping quietly lol)
Thanks,
Rich
