Title: Help identify seat cushion cover... early vs. late?
Post by: scoot on August 06, 2014, 20:44:47
I acquired some seat skins.  Many of them are not identified so I'm trying to figure out what I have.  The two shown in the pictures are identified as belonging to a 230 SL and a 280 SL, but I don't know if this is correct.   In particular, one of the seat covers is not symmetric -- it has a bulge on one side.

Can someone enlighten me?

thanks
Scott

Early 230SL (before VIN 02960) seats were symmetric thereafter the outside bulge was added and the seat bottoms for 230SL to the end of 280SL were the same.

Thanks.  So are you saying that this looks like a 113 seat bottom and the bulge goes on the outer side of the cushion?  Thank you so much!  So left and right can't be interchanged...?

Correct, the left and right seat bottoms with the bulge are not interchangeable. There is also a difference on the pleating on the bottom of the seats for the later 280 SL. There is a "pinch" of about 4-5 cm from the front of the seat bottom. This has been typed about on the forum. I have VIN 12730 and my car (with original leather) does not have these "pinches".

Thanks.   So it appears that I have a single seat back in black, blue, and lt brown, a left and right seat bottom in palomino, a left in bamboo and then 3 early seat bottoms in 3 different varieties of palomino/tan...   What to do with them, ....
