I've been sent a data card on a car which is supposed to have a 5 speed ZF box in it but i cannot see any codes on the card which confirm the different axle and the ZF box. How do you confirm it is a true Pagoda 5 speed from the data card?

Andy,

Go into the Technical Manual and look under Data Cards and then Codes. You can see the different Data Cards depending on what year it is.
Try
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/OptionCodes

The 5 speed will be code 230 unless a late model 280 from 1.4.1970 was option code 429 as you probably have seen in Alfred's post yesterday.

Here is a data card from a 280sl '69 RHD and as you see Jims as a 230SL there are slightly differences in layout.  The Tech Manual will give you all the different Data cards to year.

As i thought. I had already checked for the 230/232 codes.

So this data card definately does not represent a 5 speed?

Andy,

Am a bit confused by Naj's post.  Your car is not the same one talked about by Aashish?

You have a chassis number >017927 but no 5 speed code of 429?

No, i think it is different. The car i am looking at is a UK car and Aashish is in the US. I attached the data card on my previous post and it has code 429 on it. If Aashish could confirm his VIN number or post his data card we can confirm it is not the same car.

I cannot see where the 429 is on the data card?

there is the axle code 212  and the black hard top code 740 in the options area.

Now I see what Naj is talking about, the 422 or 426  and the 429 of yours.  Not the normal area where the optional 5 speed was listed.  Will be interesting to see if Aashish's data card is the same and the Tech manual needing changes.

Maybe you do have the holy grail as well as getting a cigar.

Hi,

Its not a 280 in Silver with Red Leather? If so I went to see this car a few months back...

Thought id ask as there cant be many 5 speeds for sale in the UK.

If it is the above car, I can give you the run down on the car... Im on my mobile anytime which is on my website www.mercland.com

Thanks

Yes, I ended up getting it.

It has a few issues cosmetically which I will sort out, but in no rush. I may well  bring it back to it's original external/ internal spec in a year or two so gently getting idea on costs from different sources.

I absolutely love the drive. Very different feel to the auto car (obviously!) but equally enjoyable in a very different way ( if that makes sense- it's a little early)

Yes that car drives fantastic...

I wish my car had power steering as i remember driving that car felt effortless whereas with mine it feels like a bit of a workout around town!
