Due to a lot of use through a lot of years, the gaiter surrounding the base of my gear stick (manual) has started to perish with a gaping hole as a result. Have looked around at various spare parts suppliers, but it seems like it's an integrated part of the carped covering the gear tunnel - is that really the case and have any of you an idea how to replace this gaiter without retrimming the car (that would seem illogical) ?
best regards

Have a look in the wiki.
You may be surprised. ;)

Is the gaiter the same thing as the large 3" diameter grommet that surrounds the shifter boot? I have a similar issue. I bought new carpet from World Upulstery and they trimmed the shifter hole with piping instead of the grommet. It looks pretty cheesy. (other than that the carpet is fine). Anyone know where to buy the grommett? I did not glue down my tunnel carpet yet so it should be very easy to fix.

Hello,
I did a writeup on this sometime back... I have to look for it and will post it here when I find it. It's in the mechanical forum.

So far I've ordered the gaiter, which was pretty cheap...will fiddle around with it as soon as it arrives from Germany.

The gaiter is separate from the carpet grommet.
I did order one thru a dealer years ago but cannot find a part # for it. :-[

Naj, thanks. I hadn't thought of going to a dealer for that part :-[. I'll give the Classic Center a call and see what they say!

Thanks Andres! It seems like the gaiter merely needs to be attached to the square base after pulling the carpet aside - that shouldn't take long...

Naj, thanks for the number. I sent a note to the Classic Center and they have 3 of them! Correction, now only 2 ;D
Can't wait to put it on, this has been one of those little things that just bugs me every time I get into the car!
