230 sl gas pedal removal
« on: March 14, 2015, 20:10:38 »
I really could use some help replacing the rubber gas pedal cover on my 230 sl. I bought a replacement pedal cover from authentic classics , but for the life of me cannot see where the old pedal disassemble, and how one replaces the cover. Did I buy the wrong part? Should I have bought the entire pedal instead?

The pedal should just pop off the two ball studs at the floor. Grab the pedal at the bottom and pull back toward the drivers seat. It should pop off.  Next rotate the pedal upward from the bottom until it is horizontal and slide it off.

Yes, you first pull form the floor and then twist it out from the top part.
To ease putting on the rubber, I heat it in the oven until it softens. A little obviously!
I don the same with brake and clutch pedal rubbers that are even harder to put on.

As I recall, and it has been nearly 15 years since I did this, my 230sl did not have a replaceable gas pedal rubber, I needed to replace the entire assembly.  It seemed to me that the rubber was fused in place.  Maybe I just did not try hard enough to separate the pieces?

+1. The pedal and rubber are one part as I recall. I bought the whole thing for my 230.

Oups! Yes, those who've commented that the gaz pedal has the rubber bonded to it are right! Only brake and clutch pedal have removable pads.
