Here are some photos of a pretty cool gift I recently received. The numbered 230SL model is 1:43 scale and the 32 page booklet is simply period black & white photos of celebrities and their 50's - 60's various Mercedes Benz cars.

Very nicely packaged, I'd never seen one of these before. Anyone else have one of these or familiar with it?

I've not seen the package before. The model though is what is sold in the Stuttgart Museum and other places and it can probably be bought online in the US as well. I have about 10 of these, all different colors etc. They are very well made and more expensive than most models.

On the topic of model cars, a new small (smaller than 1:43) model came out recently here in Europe which is also very nicely made and costs less than $4. Sold at gas stations and car fairs.

I saw this package in the boutique of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, one month ago. There are three or four different packages of MB models with the picture of the movie where they appeared.

This package is very nice... but as I already had this 1:43 white Minichamps Pagoda model, I found the price too high just for the box and the (nice) picture. I thought that "Two on the Road" with Audrey Hepburn, was a most famous movie for the Pagoda... and they choose a different movie for that package...

Cheers!

For Scale Model Fans:

Here's a recently arrived 1:43 model by Paul's Model Art, same maker as the specially boxed model discussed  above. The model is a Silver Euro Version 230 SL. The display base is marked "...230-280SL Pagode" but the model has a 230 SL trunk decal. Side mirror seems to be a late model style.

This example is sold by Mercedes parts dealers. Comes on a black display stand with plastic cover. Available  as an Open Top or with the Hard Top in place.  The package is a silver box with a side view port.  Cost about $35 US in January 2010.

MB Part Number: Open Top 6-6-04-0117; Hard Top 6-6-04-0536 (On the MB website, the Hard Top part number is B6 604 0536)
1969 280 SL, Tunis Beige, Euro Model (Italy).

Hard to tell from the photo but the hubs look 250 and 280 style.

The hubs do look to be late style. The hubs and the mirror seem to make this a "230/280" model and not totally correct for either...maybe best used as an office desk item or similar and not as a guide to restoration.

I use the model at car shows to show lookers what the car with a hard top looks like...more impact than a photo.

I'm not a serious model collector but I also have a red 280SL New Ray and the New Ray kit, link below.
