FYI, I've read a couple of recent references to the "Big Muddy" in a way that implies the Mississippi River.  The Big Muddy's actually the Missouri River.

I am from Lindenhurst, Illinois.  Just north of Chicago.  Have a 1968 280SL automatic 4, signal red, which has taken a good portion of my time away from the to MG's I have.

I am almost falling in love with this car.  I just don't want my wife to know that.

I brought the car home from about 15 miles away and it was bucking all the way.  Turned out no transmission fluid, no rear end fluid, no return spring inside the starter valve, clogged fuel injectors.  Took care of all these things and the engine runs like a gas turbine, and shifts like a new transmission.

I pride myself upon my mechanical abilities, second sort of electrical, and third in line body work.  Once I am confident all the mechanicals are good, I may put forth the money to do a complete re-body of the car.  It would be hard to touch a car like this today for the $ 20,000 it may take to do the body up perfect.  The I would have at the end would be awesome.
