Title: 4 ring Pistons for early ‘63-‘64 230sl
Post by: Anosh on May 09, 2020, 09:57:53
Hello.
I am looking to buy a set of new standard size 82mm (4 rings) pistons for my early ‘63-‘64 230sl (like pic below). I am informed that a German manufacturer has announced that these pistons would be available in June for €100 including rings. Would appreciate if someone could give me the name of the manufacturer.
I am also looking for a restored distributor for the same car.
Would appreciate your assistance.

Boy would that be a wonderful upset to the 230 parts market at 100 per piston! I am surprised that they would offer them at such a low cost though.

Do you have a distributor number? Maybe a 49T?

It was a common joke where I come from re: cheap piston rings that they were cut out of stove exhaust pipes. I would not expect better @ $100 for a set. Maybe $100 per piece?

Maybe you are right. Will go with the OEM Mahle pistons.

That should be the unit for a late 230SL, 250SL, and early 280SL.  Look to see if your vacuum line plugs on to the bottom or top of your throttle valve housing.

Hi.
The car is in the repair shop and we are in very strict lock down. I have attached two pics. One of the distributor fixed on the car (sorry not a good pic) and one of a similar distributor. I am told that these are for the later pagodas. Mine is an early '63 model. Will this type of distributor make a difference in the running of the engine? Or are they interchangeable. If not, I need to get the earlier one for my car.
Many thanks.
