Title: 1963 220seb Cabriolet ex Pasquale "Pat " di Cicco
Post by: perry113 on January 24, 2021, 02:33:58
I came across this 1963 220seb Cabriolet on the internet this evening with some crazy history.
Pasquale "Pat"di Cicco's car

The car was delivered at the end of 1963 in New York to famous mobster and movie director Pasquale "Pat" di Cicco. He was a famous character in the American movie scene but also the right hand of Lucky Luciano, one of the New York maffia godfathers. Pat di Cicco was married with Thelma Todd for some years (but she was found dead a month after their divorce....) and jetset queen Gloria Vanderbilt. He was also a very close friend to Frank Sinatra, sharing their respective tastes for nightlife and women. After two failed murder attempts, Pat di Cicco fled in 1970 to Biarritz, France and took his cherished Mercedes 220 SE Cabriolet with him. At the end of 1978, di Cicco became very ill and went back to New York where he died of cancer shortly after his arrival. His Mercedes stayed in France of course, and was sold a few years later by di Cicco's wife to Pat's best friend who kept it preciously up to 2003. Then the car was bought by a well known car collector who had the car partially restored but kept as much as possible from the originality.

I have no affiliation with the seller.

Interesting car in its history and its condition.

What a beauty. I used to own a 61 220SE Cabrio like that as well as 63 Coupe.

I would check the trunk for a dead body. Maybe we finally solved the mystery of Jimmy Hoffa's disappearance. 8)

Yeah and maybe some cement to make cement shoes.

That is an attractive color combo. Questions about the engine bay picture:
- Did all the 220SEs have the remotely mounted brake boosters?
- The battery tray is mounted further back than on my 280SE. I guess they had to do that when the booster become situated on the firewall.
- I am trying to figure out how the battery is held down. Can’t quite see the frame.
- The washer bottle looks to be stuffed between the battery and the inner fender. Looks like a similar method as with Pagodas. Mine is hung on hooks and is part of the upper battery hold down frame.

Wallace - The brake booster at the front of the engine bay finished in late 63 or 64.
