Title: Door Lock help
Post by: 69280sl on May 28, 2023, 00:50:04
My doors (1968 280sl) have never been lockable from the outside with the key. With the locks removed from the car the key swings to the left and right as it should. With the locks in places the key does not rotate but does press in to release the door. The "fork" on the lock is clearly not "mating with whatever on the part set into the door edge.

Seems like only one way to fit the lock in. Is there any secret?

All suggestions are appreciated.

Here's another:  https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=31045.msg225461#msg225461

Hopefully your door handle locking mechanism is not broken (as shown in the photo).

When I refitted door handles after painting I found that you have to get the notch of the door handle lock (number 2 in the picture) matched up just right to the locking mechanism on the door.  As the handle is presented to the door, I had to get the angle just right for the two mechanisms to match up. You can take the door handle off without taking the door card off but to put it back in and match the lock mechanism on the door, you may have to remove the door card.

I see only one photo ended up in the reply.  Hopefully both are shown now.
