tyre size

I know this has been covered and I have searched well before asking. Other than the picture in the tech manual, does anyone have pictures of their car on 205 tyres please ?

Paul,

Here is mine with 205's.  I fitted 3mm spacers on rear to avoid potential rubbing and have not had any problems

Thanks Garry. They look great, really meaty. What are they ? Did you notice that they handled differently to smaller tyres ? I don't chuck mine about on track days, it's just has normal ( modern ) use.

thanks again, and thanks for the spacer tip.

You can see photos of my car with 205/70-14 Bridgestones at http://home.earthlink.net/~cearnest2/Mercedes/.  I have not had any trouble with clearance.

Paulr,

Since your car is in London why not consider locating some 15 inch wheels as I did.  Handling improvement is tremendous.

I would love some, but my searches have proved fruitless. I am taking my car to NYC in the spring and my journeys much longer, so a set would be great. Any ideas ?

....I read your link and wheel journey. What a search. I think they look great. Are you happy with the result ?

Hi, Paul,

Check with Dave Colloins. 07710 672986
He breaks MBs in Yorks.

Also,
rob-parker@hotmail.com (don't know if that should be a dash or underscore)
He supplied 15" wheels for a W108 and I bought the displaced 14s.

paulr,

The 15"  wheel and tire combination is perfect.  I have a heavier 230SL sway bar, progressive springs and adjustable koni shocks on the rear and they work great together with the wheels.  Maybe UK imports came with alloy wheels like the US Mercedes.  I know there are steel wheels available in Europe.  Go for it.  You won't regret it.

I took the car in today for an MOT and one of my front tyres had low tread on the edge, the other was weak too so I bought a pair of mxv-p michelins 185's and will wear these and the back one's down until I find a pair of 15" wheels.

As much as I love the meaty look of the 205's I have decided that I'll go the 15" route. So I have made some enquiries and will see what happens.

Thanks again guys.

Hi Paul,
My 205 were 205/70/14, They were all I could get at the time with the WW and not sure what brand they were and can't look at the  moment car is now in garage away from where I am.  Put them on almost at the start of getting the car back on the road about 7 years ago and so don't have any comparisons with the 185's but they do ride comfortably and are a good handling tyre,
