Turn signal decal dimensions
« on: November 01, 2021, 16:22:06 »
Is there anyone that has a turn signal stalk from a 250 or 280SL with legible decals that would be willing to take some pictures of the dimensions (with a caliper) of the plastic part at the end of the turn signal?

The turn signal stalk in my 250SL has had the decals completely rubbed off and I am trying to get new decal stickers fabricated. In order to do that I need to get some precise measurements of the plastic housing with clear pictures of the existing decals. Would be happy to share the contact details of the person I am in touch with to create the decals in case anyone else is interested in ordering them.

I’d be interested, my markings have also rubbed off but the stalk and function are perfect.
In a mad moment I tried to paint the detail back on with a fine brush and made rather a mess of it 😂

I will check with the decal person to see if that picture will work. I think there are some more decals in the front though?

Dimension of bothe the length and width are necessary to get the scale right.

Are you going to make water decals, dry decals or some other ones? How do you intend to protect them from wear? Just interested, I would have some to recreate on a different car...

Nope.  :o

There are no decals on the handle of the turn signal switch.
Early 250ies (up to serial 002979) and 230ies do not have any inscriptions at all on their column switch (A001 545 5524),

and the late ones (250ies after 002979 and 280ies;  part number A002 545 2924) also do not have decals but fine not very deep engravings, which were filled with a pale white paint - as can be easily seen on Dene's new switch.

I am fully aware that there were no decals. But I think topo_grande identified decals as a way to re-create pictograms on the switch. These engraved ones also wear off.

If the engraving is still there you should be able to re-apply white paint to make it like new again?

Looks like I have an early 250SL so the decals are not necessary.

I had checked the wiki, but the only difference that was explicitly mentioned between the 280SL and earlier cars was the length of the stalk and the kink. Perhaps the wiki could be updated?

Thanks everyone for their input.

These are the markings at the correct size and location. You should be able to use the files attached to get decals made.
best regards

Bought one of the covers Pawel mentioned, five minutes to fit in situ,  excellent quality. As you can see I tried to paint the decals on the old plastic cover and made a mess of it, really pleased with the new cover . Comes with a new spring and pin but used the old pin as it’s a snugger fit . Pull the old pin out by catching the edge with your fingernail, craft knife blade would also work.
