Title: Garage interiors
Post by: Cees Klumper on June 05, 2004, 14:57:57
Here's a photo of my 1-car garage - maybe it would be fun to see where other Pagodas spent most of their time:

Cees,
It looks just like a garage should - filled with stuff. If you want to get rid of one of your 280 sl engines I am interrested in buying one.

this photo was taken days after we poured the concrete slab floor, with radiant heat tubes installed, in the 200+ year old barn on our property, the barn is 25x30, quite dry and straight.  The Benz's barn-mate is our 1967 saab sonett II, and since I have added a bunch of equipment to fill the third bay, tools and tool chests, tractor and all the lawn mowing and snow blowing attachments.  Until we build a garage for the modern cars, the equipment needs to stay in my workshop/barn.  Fortunately we have better places to keep all teh spare bits for the car.  We will have electricity and gas out to the barn in a month or so, then we can install the 2-post lift and heating system I've been waiting for.
more photos of the house (1811 dutch colonial farmhouse), all the cars, the barns and us and our pooch, at www.eigs.net

Here's where the Brown Beauty gets her rest...a commercial garage in the heart of Manhattan NYC...in the shadow of the UN Headquarters not far from Broadway...
For the convenience of a one minute walk to the car, I've given up storage space and other private garage amenities...the monthly garage rent is up in the stratosphere of NY prices...

This is the home of my sl. When I first bought the car, it lived in a tent on my front yard until the garage was built. If you look closely, you can see the hard top hanging from the ceiling.

Above the garage is a 24x15 attic which helped justify this big expense to the wife.

Speaking of wives. I am forced to build a new garage.  Everytime I clear our oversized 3 car my other half thinks we have new storage space. Any thoughts here?

Man, I love this site. Where else can you go to admire garages?
You are my kind of people; and my ex-wife thought I was crazy. Now I know I am not alone.

Hi Tosh and All,
It's my brothers 'CinqueCento' but being a picollo automobil it's taking up way to much space  . I hope the restoration of my "old lady" will not take the more than 15yrs  :x  it takes this 'CinqueCento'. The paintjob on the CinqueCento is a real masterpiece, UV filter laquer(?) over original ferrari red over zinqed :?:  body.
Mercedes worthy :)  paintjob!!
He could have bought a new car and stored it for this long to get an oldtimer.
I would love to use this space for spare parts and equipment. Like the tester in one of the pics which BTW is fixed and working fine.
Last week I did the final tests on the scope.

Hello. fello Auto Enthusiast.
you think you have enough space when you business is auto care. I have a 1,200 square foot commerical space and I am running out of room most of my stuff is packed above my office and rest room on the rafters above. And most of my projects prevent me from pulling out my SL to center it for more than one day projects with out taking space away form where I work on my clients cars
I have been bugging my wife Sharon that if she get us a vistorian home which is what she wants that I must have at lease a four car space grauge to put my cars and my stuff. And an office to display all my model cars and Ford And Mercedes parts and book.
I will post pictures of my shop later but mine you car people never have enough space.

What type of finish  or paint system did you use on the floor?  It looks great.

Its called "Epoxyshield" by Rustoleum, installed by Home Depot believe it or not. The floor is prepared with an abrasive wheel (on what looks like a floor buffer), primed, and the epoxy is applied via squeegee. The "specs" are added as a last step. Warranteed that nothing will make it lift or peel (even gas or battery acid). Cleans with a damp mop. Very happy so far. All for $2.50/sq. ft.

Ken:
It is an epoxy floor, done about 7 years ago. It has held up nicely with very little maintenance but I've got to tell you, KevinC of Boca made the best call. The price of having this type of floor has fallen dramatically in the past few years and to have Home Depot come out and provide the kind of finish he shows on his floor (see his posting, this thread, April 23, 2005) looks fantastic for $2.50 per square foot.

just got most of my commercial vinyl tire installed, not yet polished.
This stuff is great, goes down easy, easy to trim around obstacles, looks great, can do some great pattern, available at lowes and home depot for $.60/sf....I did my 850 SF barn floor for $600.

Finally here is a shot of the mountain garage interior, complete with a pair of "his and her" 1966 "M-something" sports cars.  ("Her's" is the one that you need to take a can opener to in order to remove the steel top!)  Sorry I haven't been on the site much lately.  We have been gutting and remodeling our home in Alexandria, while living in it!  This doesn't leave one much computer time...
