My firewall insulation pad is very deteriorated and I plan to replace it soon. Is the pad made of anything hazardous (i.e. - asbestos) that I should be concerned about as I am working around it and/or start tearing it out?

I don't think so - but I'm not sure so best wait for a second, more knowledgable, opinion. It will not hurt to wear a good respirator mask for the job in any case.
The exhaust shield attached to the underside of the intake manifold does have an asbestos mat inside but it's encased in aluminium.

When you scrape that material off, clouds of dust and particles will emerge. I would take Dave's advice and wear a respirator regardless. If possible, keep the material wet (e.g. with a plant-sprayer) as you scrape it off to reduce how much material takes to the air. Others may have better advice.
