Part Question
« on: July 27, 2010, 00:00:28 »
We have "finished" rebuilding the engine and restoring the engine bay.  We ended up with two unknown pieces that we could not figure out where they go.  The first is an angled bracket with a threaded hole for a 6mm bolt and the second had a small bracket for holding a very small hose (like the distributor vacuum hose).

Hi Jim,
here are two pictures that should tell where these parts go.--
If that's all you had left over then you guys did a great job!  :)

Alfred ...... Thanks.  Now if that one bracket fits on the vacuum tube behind the engine, then there is a different bracket that needs a home.  The one that we used from the boos on the intake manifold to hold that pipe was not threaded so we will need to find a home for it.  We installed power steering in the car and the power steering reservoir bracket connected where the little tube holder attached.

Thanks.

Hello Jim,

How did the power steering install go?  What did you end up doing with the steering column?

Re: bracket,   Some engins used a bracket like that to hold the oil dip stick tube secure. It attached to  the injection pump mounting bolt. One hole is 6mm dia. and the other is threaded for a 5mm bolt and clip (like the one on the left in your picture).  Only engines with the "longer" dip stick tube used these.

Joe .... The power steering is WONDERFUL.  I love it.

I modified my lower steering shaft.  I had talked to Grenold and he recalled that the shaft length was an even metric length.  I measured the difference in shaft length of the steering boxes by using the mounting holes as a datum.  The results were that the lower shaft need to be shortened to 400mm.  I cut the shaft with a chop saw, a 1/2 inch bolt fit exactly in the hole of the tube and held it firmly as the shaft was welded.  It fit perfectly.  I plan to document much of the process in an article for Pagoda World.

Hi, Jim,

Nice job on the engine bay.

Quite different from what I saw at Blacklick.

Now, to keep it that way.....
