Title: Rubber "Things" on Hood Tension Arm - 230SL
Post by: mistertj on July 18, 2020, 13:14:58
Does anyone know the purpose of the short rubber tube things on the hood tension rod? Do they have a part number? Are they even original equipment?

Part number is in listing.

I think owners use those that are there mainly to hold/cushion the brakes lines. PN is, I think, A 126 328 01 81.

This is what I have. Perhaps not correct.

They are not on the part list for hood. I see them on almost every picture of the hood... They are just in a different place than you show on the picture. They are a bit more towards the middle of the hood, preventing torsion bar touching the hood.

The PN from Authentic Classic, 110 987 0081 is not recognized by the EPC. Could have been 110 428 0081, but this one is replaced by the one I provided above.

I found two different part numbers for this particular item. I remembered searching for it some years back, and learned that it was the rubber sleeve used on the rear brake line (which is clamped to the rear axel with a Beru type cotter key style clamp). It is listed on Group 42 Brake system. The one at the rear 110 428 01 81 listed as "Hose for brake lines". there is another listing for one at the front and appears to have a larger diameter, but hard to tell from the drawing - this one is listed as 110 997 01 82 label is "hose"

As to the purpose for the ones under the hood - rattle damper, vibration damper, your guess

When I put these in place, I used a small dab of glue to hold their position. The rubber does tend to harden over time.

Jonny B, yes there are those two, but there is a third part in Group 42 001, number 276 on the drawing and this is the one I referred to:

A 110 428 00 81 RUBBER PAD, replaced with A 110 428 01 81

A 110 428 01 81 HOSE, replaced with A 126 328 01 81

A 126 328 01 81 RUBBER BUSHING

This is the one that is a rubber cylinder with a hole through it, pre-cut on the side. Just as pictured on Authentic Classic pages.

It is also used for fuel lines, Group 47 001, part 154 on the drawing - this is where the system is sending you when you search for the number.

Got it! Thanks you all. Will slide more towards middle of hood to keep rod from touching hood.

Pawel,

You are using an electronic guide, yes? I do not have access to that and use the parts catalogs. You would have more up to date data. The parts number tag (not the part number itself) do not go as high as the ones you noted.

Thanks for the update.

Yes, indeed, I use the EPC. It has its dark sides, but gives quite a lot of information usually.
