Hi all,
I am trying to figure out what sort of rear axle my car has fitted. It is a 1963 W111 220se cabrio and according to the datacard the rear axle number was 06965/4/10.
The axle on the car is marked S4/10 and the serial number is 067033. Does anybody have a resource which can identify which type of car this axle came off?
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,
maybe this can help you: ratio 4.1, 10 teeth

Thanks WRe.....I would like to know when the first series (4.1) changed to the 2nd series (4.08).
The 4.1 (10:41) version looks quite rare and never fitted to a 230SL Pagoda.

The 4.10 axle is commonly used on many fin cars. This is very low gearing and it will help you to pull stumps out of the ground. ;D
230SL used 3.75 which I believe is the most common and 4.08 which is less common.

I have a early 230sl, No. 312, with 4.08. original per the data card.

Thanks guys,
I am happy it is the right ratio for the car. I was just concerned that because it was a much later serial number that it may have been different to original. I was hoping to get some sort of approx age for the replacement axle too.
