Having installed an iPod connection some time ago. It was always a problem using the iPod on
The move, not to mention a little unsafe. So I got to thinking about some sort of holder. Anything
Of the shelf just looked wrong.
I wanted something simple. Something that would securely hold the iPod. That could be placed within easy reach,
and as easy to get to / control as the radio. And the cables must be hidden (I just can’t stand seeing cables). It would
also have to be easily removed.
So after a few prototypes, the result is below.
It is simply fixed using Velcro hooks to the carpet. Can be removed in seconds. Cables all hidden
Under the carpet. I also added a USB connection so the iPod is constantly charged.
I am happy with the result, It is so much easier to use from a fixed position.

A very elegant solution in my opinion. I have been laying the phone on the carpet directly in front of the gear shift so your placement makes perfect sense. Removable and USB connection. Patent pending?

With some free time over the holiday, I thought I would take another look at the iPod stand. Having recently upgraded my phone
I thought I would put my old iPhone to use.
The result is a new stand for the iPhone, again it is simply attached with Velcro and a tight push fit. USB and 3.5mm Jack connection
under carpet. It can be unplugged and installed in seconds. works great for music and as a satnav...
I will make similar unit for use with the iphone7 when I get some more time.

Also a little homework.
At the wood console i have a 3.5 plug for the radio and a plug for charging.
So i can use my phone neatly handfree.
Under the upholstery i can connect a navi.

I realize that there's no challenge in a purchased solution, and in some jurisdictions they don't allow anything on the windscreen, but there are some elegant, simple, non-invasive solutions out there...

Those are just two examples of literally thousands that Amazon has.
They basically come in three styles: dash mount, vent mount, and windscreen mount. The older windscreen mounts used a suction cup, the newer ones use some kind of sticky gel-type pad, which also can work on some of the dash mounts. Since we don't have center vents like a modern car, that genre isn't useful on a Pagoda. In our case, a windscreen mount would easily stick to the glove box. A small USB charger for the lighter and there's your power. Total investment for about any setup you choose would probably be between USD $15-$30. Takes about 5 seconds to remove and unplug everything. No cutting, no wiring. Easy. Cheap. But no challenge for those that want it. ;)

Each to there own. Obviously I am well aware of the cheap mounts available on
Amazon. I wanted a solution that suited me. I for one cannot stand seeing wires
Hanging from cigarette lighter power sockets, or from anywhere.
That may suit others, as that may be their only option. That was something I would never have been happy with. Also I have not cut or drilled anything in the interior.

I fabricated the whole docking unit.
It is connected to a Bose amp hidden under rear shelf. When phone is docked it charges at the same time. Also acts as a satnav.

Although very happy with the way the iPhone 7 dock turned out. I started to feel
I needed to make some improvements. Mainly to give the dock a more "period look".
So taking Bond's DB5 Aston as inspiration. I set to work, the result, the iPhone screen can now be secretly hidden away and easily accessed when needed.

I took a different route....when having my radio fixed by Becker USA they added a lack to run a pig tail wire that goes to a small jack inside the glove box. Plays through the radio when connected or the radio plays if nothing is connected...Everything nicely tucked out of site in the glove box.

I went the same way as 67w113 - a plug in the back of the radio (Europa) and a small socket in the glove box. Now the next step is to stick the bluetooth receiver in that socket in the glove box so that you can play with the phone in your hand via bluetooth with everything hidden and no wires hanging.
