Original paint responds differently
« on: June 14, 2008, 09:23:35 »
Dear Pagoda friends,
My 1965 230sl was delivered in MB516 medium red and I have every reason to believe the current paint is original.  I recently treated the car to a bit of TLC, using a mild cleaner and paint rubber to get rid of year's of old wax, before using a polisher to bring out the shine.  After a couple a treatments with wax, I fail to bring the color of the trunk up to the same level as the rest of the body.  I first thought this might have something to do with the trunk being aluminum, but then so is the hood. The car recently spent some time outside with a few waterdrops on the body, which continue to show on the trunk but have washed off the rest of the body.
My 230sl has spent most of its life under wraps, which explains the good condition of the paintwork but I fail to understand the condition of the trunk.
Anyone care to venture a guess?
Best regards,
Tempur
