Title: Exterior door mirror

My 280 SL 1071 has a door mounted rear view mirror which appears to be in the wrong location, as you have to turn it through nearly 90 degrees to see anything. It is obviously mounted incorrectly.
Can anyone advise me as to the correct location. Pictures I have looked at seem to mount it very close to the side window and high up.
I would appreciate any comments.

Right or Left hand drive car? Driver or passenger side view mirror?
