Theo,
you need to start learning how to use the search function!  :)
Type in 'hardtop weight', and what do you get:

Are we really sure about the weight of the hard top?

Here are some extracts from the Technical Manual. Comments were made before this Group was formed.
________________

"What does the hard top weigh?

"I read somewhere that it weighs about 70kg = 140lbs.

"I lifted one off a car by myself. It can't weigh that much. I would guess about 100 Lbs.

"165 lbs. is the figure i've seen quoted.

"Hans in Stockholm: weight of the W113 Hard Top is 46 kilos.

"The Tabellenbuch passenger cars lists for the 250 and 280 SL weight with hardtop and folded softtop 1405 kg weight and without hardtop 1320 kg. Therefore, the hardtop should weigh 85 kg (188 US lbs.)

"The figure of 165 lbs. is lodged in my head for some reason...I can’t find the source.

"Page 83 of Frank Barrett's "Mercedes-Benz buyer's guide: 'add 176lb for hardtop.

"These hard tops weigh about 100kg"

Quite a variation in the weight figures.

Do we have a printed Mercedes or other reliable source?  Has anyone actually weighed the top?

Hi Richard,
the weights listed in the link (pagode.de) - 49 kg - come from the Engelen book (see table on p. 218). That is  as good as as it can get - at least I haven't seen reliable information about a mistake in his book. Of course, there can be some minor weight deviations. For example, are the rails to hold a carrier included? probably not; the heated rear window wiring and the aftermarket sun roof? certainly not.
Another source that shows the same 49 kg is a data table on the German Pagoda Club web site:

I have always assumed a weight of 110 pounds which is close to 49 kgs. I  Shipped one years ago out to the west coast and with packing it was less than 125 pounds.  I also was able to carry one by myself up my basements stairs a few years ago, so I know it can't weigh much more than 110 pounds.
