Does anyone know the paint code for the color referred to as "Old English White"? It seems (

) to have been a factory color for 1966 in Europe.

Hi Theo,
it is doubtful that this was an official Mercedes color name.
If you haven't discovered it, take a look in our Technical Manual right here, you'll be surprised what you can find out about Pagodas, including paint codes and colors:

Thanks, 66: Mine was delivered as 050 (not sure to what extent it has retained it). Do you know what is difference between 050 and 171- they look the same from the pix on the site, but mine is verging slightly toward beige. Is 171 whiter than 050, do you know?

Theo, yes I believe 171 is whiter than 050. My car is 171 and I don't know how it could get any whiter. I know the colour is correct because I ordered a tube of 171 touch up paint and it matches perfectly. I saw a 230SL at auction last year that was 050. If the colour was correct it looked like it had a ivory tint to it. I would not have called it white to look at it. Maybe someone that has an 050 can comment.

I would characterize 717 (papyrus) white as less bright white than 050. Mine is 717 -- but when I had it repainted, the Guy said, "we can match it pretty close..." Well, you get what you pay for ... for 1300 dollars (1997), I got what I swear is a shade whiter. I didn't do the dash and with a discerning eye you can see the difference. The 050 you saw Marcus must have been a light ivory 670. A very nice white but in different lights, looks more yellowy. The tech manual has some decent pictures showing the codes.

Achim, yes I must have had a dyslexic moment.

Of course it is 717. I would love to see a 717 next to a 050 to see the comparison. Maybe this summer at PUB11.

Not sure if these pictures add anything (other than a good laugh) but

The first one shows my car on the left next to a 050 (the Honorable George Davis's 280)... Mine is every bit as white I think.

The second shows mine before I painted it -- when it was a true 717. As you can see by my very white duds, it was sort of an off-white.

Here is a car that is paint code 050. This was an absolutely stunning 230SL that I had a chance to look at closely a few years ago. It more white than my 670 light ivory.

My 69 280Sl is painted 050. Here is a photo taken last week showing the contrast between the car and my very white garage doors. The paint on the car is original (42+ years old).

I have got a touch up paint pen from them and it works well. They will not sell the spray can paint out side USA due to the postage by airmail problem with pressure packs.

From what I am aware, 050 "white" was always delivered by Glasurit (the "G" in the paint code) and not by Herberts (the "H")

Dear Achim.
You are right the correct code is G050 and "G" is effectively Glausurit.
Unable to get this color or any color in Afghanistan, by an error appears on my id record should be Mexico City......
