Why is your .jpg an attachment instead of displaying in the message?

Most jpg attachments just show up in with the text and don't need to be clicked on.  Me getting ready to pass the Corvette, for example.

I have no idea. My iPhone saves images either as .JPG or as .HEIC. If its .HEIC it does not upload here and I have to convert the file to .JPG. Maybe that has to do with it?

Maybe we should allow these file extensions to be attachable as well?

Did you properly convert it or did you change it's extension?
You need to properly convert .heic images... otherwise it cannot show them in-line

As long as browsers -- other than Safari -- do not support .heic or .heif I cannot let them be used as an upload format.
Apple users, please convert your images to .jpg before uploading. And with convert, I mean convert... do not just change the extension.

An Apple tool for conversion is Preview. A quick shortcut is: Go to the folder where your photos are located and hold down the Command key while selecting the photos you want to convert. Right-click the selection and choose Quick Actions. Next, choose Convert Image > JPEG. Customize image size if you like.

On an iOS device (iPhone/iPad):

• Open Picture in Photos-App
• Tap Share
• Tap Copy Photo
• Open Files-App in any writable folder
• Tap on empty space and select "Paste"
• The inserted file will be in jpeg format automatically.

Then upload that file in your post using the Attachments option

In my case, I did convert them: meaning save as …
Also, the files open and display on my windows based laptop (not Safari) just fine.
But, I have no problem converting them either.

I find the Adobe link a bit curious as the .heic format has been around for a number of years, and it wasn't until very recently that I could drag an .heic file into Photoshop Elements! You still cannot save a file as an .heic in this Adobe product. So Adobe hasn't embraced it. Apple has, but they were not the inventors, just the adopters.

As mentioned, preview or similar will easily convert the file. Changing your iPhone to "most compatible" will simply do everything in .jpg which of course, increases file sizes dramatically.
