I hope these are not the stainless steel ones. I kinda doubt it.
I bought some stainless bumpers for my bmw 2002 and they scratched rather easily (although they buffed out easily too).
Contemplating having my bumpers repaired (fill the guard holes to be euro-like, dang out a dent) and re-chromed, but I can see that going for at least $1500 or more from a chrome shop.
-
Not sure if he still uses the same supplier but the rear set I was sent about 5 years ago did not fit correctly. The mounting tabs were welded in the wrong location. I ended up sending them back.
YMMV
-
Yeah, most are junk; poor fit or poor quality, and they make lousy doorstops.
-
I installed these on my 1970. They are chrome. I asked them that. They fit OK front and back. They are lighter in weight than original Mercedes bumpers. they come with a small strip to join front bumpers which to me looks like stainless with more of a slight goldish hint. Its OK if you have a front plate as it will cover it mostly. there was a slight defect on a spot on my front bumper and I requested a replacement. But ID have to pay for shipping back. So I accepted a discount instead.
-
Hi, I purchased a complete set of these for my '70 and they are excellent. I will be purchasing another set after Christmas for my '69. If you want an inside contact ask for Nelson, good guy.
I hope this helps,
Bill

do they come w/o holes (i.e. euro versions)?
-
the ones I have are without holes. Although my car is a us spec. I like cleaner look and if I want I could always drill holes but I will leave as is.
-
yep. replaced front bumper this summer with vintage . like Pinder said, the weight is slightly less, but overall quality for the $ is great. no regrets. I ordered the middle piece from Authentic Classics. see attached some pictures for reference.
happy holiday's everyone.

looks good. You can also re use your old middle piece if it looks good. Only other thing I suggest is to paint the back of the bumpers like the ordinals would be. I didn't do this but Im thinking of taking them back off and gets some paint back there.

I need to either re-chrome my old ones or go for an above mentioned new set as well.
My (preferred) chromer wants $1750 for the front and rear bumpers to chrome.
-
I had the same dilemma. Re chrome old or buy these new. I am happy with these. they look great and I get to keep my old ones. cant beat front and bakc for $750 plus shipping.

If re-chroming is out of your budget, going with reproductions is reasonable. However, I’d opt on having the originals re-chromed even at the higher cost. Why? Superior quality and you’ll never get a reproduction ever to fit as perfectly as the originals.
You’ve put a lot of time and effort into your car and it’s looking absolutely top notch. Why go 2nd tier now?
-
I agree with Len. if you have the originals, and they are in good shape, have them chromed. I recorded my OEM rear bumpers and the the mirror finish on OEM steel is best, good depth to the shine. unfortunately my original front bumper was to dinged up to repair. the EuroVintage bumpers are a good substitute if the originals are beyond hope.
seasons greetings and happy new year to all/

Well... That extra $1k USD would go towards some cool euro headlights
-
Let me update above post. My (second choice) chromer just got back to me and quoted $750 for the sets.
Quiet a difference. Decision to make. ;D
-
I would always go for restoration or repair of original equipment rather then reproductions, especially now that the price is similar. Just my preference

Let us know how they come out. I'll ship mine out to him if you can get it at that price.
Having the US overrider holes filled in? Any dents/rust in your pieces?
-
$750 for the set is an amazing price. Great deal.

I don’t have overrides but I have two holes in the front top ones that I guess were used for fog lights or something. I offered to fill these in and they will grind / polish them to finish. One of my rear bumpers has a small dent from backing into something which they will take care off.
No real rust, chrome flaking in a section on the front.
-
Dirk, how did you get on with this, and how were the results? Are you able to share who did the work?
Thanks!
-
Well, when I went to Authentic and inspected the ones he sells, I chose to buy a set of bumpers as well as a grill star and assembled these. I will refinish the original ones down the road.
-
Dirk,
Your car is looking terrific. Those gleaming bumpers really make the silver paint pop. I know that this project has probably longer than you would have liked but what you’re ending up with accurately reflects the time and effort you’ve lavished into your car. I’m truly impressed!

Looks great!
Just to be clear did you end up dealing with Vintage Euro, or switch to Authentic Classics?
Thanks much
-
Oh, sorry,
I meant Vintage Europarts not Authentic.
