Joe Alexander Tech Session next year - what dates?
« on: September 29, 2004, 14:37:42 »
Great news: Mary and Joe Alexander are once again hosting a tech session for the Group, next year. This is in Columbus, Ohio, not too far from the airport.

Mary suggested that I run possible dates by you all to see what fits your schedules best:

July 9 and 10
July 23 and 24
July 30 and 31

Also possible: Independence Day weekend, most everyone has Monday July 4th off work, so we could go with Sat July 2 and Sunday July 3; anyone wants to stayover for the 4th?

Please post your preferences here - we would like to see many of you attend!

Besides the tech session, we will have the 'tire test' (swapping different brands of tires on one car, to determine what's best). Also we can do a scenic drive, car show & swap meet, BBQ etc.

Those July dates look good to me.  I just returned from Hudson, Ohio where I used to live many years ago and enjoyed the scenary. It would be great fun to drive the car from Napa Valley,California to Ohio! Speaking of Napa, I would enjoy arranging a get together of pagoda owners here in the Napa Valley at a local winery this Fall.  Anyone game?

I would very much like to attend the tech session, however it's hard to pick any dates this soon.
It would be great if we could get together and form caravans from the different regions to Ohio.

Great topic for the Events Forum!   ;)

I don't have anything on my calendar for July.  I would assume many people would have family obligations for the holiday.  Although, if we do it during the holiday, all our out of town guests could come in early on Friday and watch fireworks with a few hundred thousand new friends.  (www.redwhiteandboom.org)

Cees,

While all dates work, I think the 4th of July would limit attendance, as many of us have established traditions around this holiday that include our families.  While others may enjoy better success, I have struggled to get my family hooked on my passion that centers around a 33 year old car!

For those that have never attended one of these sessions at Joe's place-it is a fabulous event.  Hopefully establishing the date early will allow for maximum attendance.

Best,

Tom

James,
Are you serious about driving back to Blacklick OH?  Would be interesting drive.  Worth discussing... Can always ship cars back to CA.
There are several (maybe 3 cars)here in Nevada City, CA who might be inteterested in a Napa Valley get together.

It is still a bit early to pinpoint a date, but July 05 is pretty clear. While Mr. Soule has moved from Hudson Ohio, I am still there.

Thanks Dick, give a call, and perhaps we can pull something off in Napa. Hey Jony, you still live in Hudson?  Great town as you know! Someone on Streetsboro is selling a 230sl that has had a lot of work for 33,000, check it out if you are interested.  Thanks!

For right now, one 113 is enough, although other are tempting.

I know we will be able to make something work out in July.

Does anyone know if Tom is planning a get together in Virginia this year?

If anyone is coming through Colorado, I'd like to join the caravan. Not sure I'd want to drive that distance unaccompanied.

Looking at the map maybe driving from California to Blacklick in the middle of the summer in a non AC 34 year old car is not a great idea.

Dick,
Yes, it's a lot of miles!  I would think that there are enough California Group members that you could get quite a caravan, picking more up along the way.  Between the mechanical experience of the members in the caravan, any roadsie assistance plans people might have, and access to MB service centers along the way, everyone should probably be OK.  Just leave extra time for the trip each way.  What an experience that would be!

Let me add a few things here...

The MBCA is having its [bi-annual] Gemutlichkeit sometime next summer, and that's a national event; I have not been able to find the dates yet.  We shouldn't conflict with that.  Then there are two other national concours here in Michigan (for those that care) the Concours at Cranbrook (third weekend in July) and Concours at Meadowbrook (last weekend of July).  I think those that hold the national concours events try not to conflict with one another.  I mention these events, for it was Starfest and Meadowbrook this summer, held on the same weekend, which caused some notable entries not to make Starfest.  Not our pedestrian 113's, but some more exotic and older Benz's.

My feeling is earlier in the season the better, and I also agree with my friend Tom that July 4th traditions with families might reduce attendence.
