I found an error early in the article.  "The engine was an exceedingly robust, single-cam inline-four fed by Bosch injection."

And, later on.  "Of the nearly 24,000 copies of the 280SL built, more than half came to the U.S. and all but 882 cars had the automatic box. Power windows had become standard, and air conditioning was ordered more often than not."

Nice article. I am an old man now. Having owned/driven so many 113's, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference in performance between manual transmission 230 - 250 - 280SL's. I think that they all perform better than automatics, IMHO. But I'm a manual guy.

Very Interesting article.

Reading Kunz’ penchant for Pagodas and 230sl's as is noted in the article has made me really appreciate his comments about my car when ClassicMotorsports magazine held their "Concours d'Cancelation.”

Michael Kunz , referenced in the article, as well as Rob Moran, PR Director of MBNA and Richard Griot, founder of Griots Garage were the judges of the Mercedes-Benz class for the "Concours d'Cancelation.”
