Title: '71 280sl evaporative emissions line to engine?
Post by: Rick on October 23, 2019, 00:19:49
There is a black plastic quarter inch diameter evaporative emission line which comes forward and ends in the engine compartment  near the area of the distributor. Apparently it has become unhooked. Where does that thing plug,-in into the engine? Is it into the aluminum front timing gear housing or the side of the engine block?
I have been looking for the hole and I guess I'm just not spotting it. There's a little metal apprx 1/4" connector on the end of the loose line that's hanging there.

It connects to the a fitting on the front of the engine block. I'm thinking the cap fitting for the oil pressure relief valve was modified for this purpose in the latter USA cars with emissions.

Check the line all the way back to the trunk.  They tend to crack.  I think I bought new line from BelMetric when I redid mine.

I could use one of those evaporation tanks that go in the trunk in case someone has one.

Dan, The big one or the little one?  I may have both.  Not 100 percent sure about the big one.  If you have one the tubes broke off of I have a tool for reattaching new ones.

I'm going to look and see what's going with this car. Not much done well or done right.
