Title: Radio. Replacement for dealer fitted Bluespot. 44mm issue.
Post by: Paul99 on July 09, 2021, 17:10:06
My car being an early car has the 44mm gap in the dash. I have the original radio that was fitted when the car was new but would like to replace for a modern radio.

The problem is that all the ones I have found are the standard 50mm size.  I don't really want to cut the panel as I will retrofit the radio if I eventuality sell the car and keep it original.

Anyone know (ideally in the UK) who sells a modern radio that will fit the 44mm gap?

Buy a new or used panel with 50 mm opening. I have seen on eBay, paint to your car Colour and you are ready to go.

Here what you need, but looking at the price I am sure you will cut your faceplate….

Paul,

Replacement center panels are available from the common sources like Bud's, Authentic or SLS,    8)
for instance here:

https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/main/en/mercedes-230-280sl-w113-/68-a-dashboard-covering/ctre-section-dashboard-230sl-p-16736

SLS claims that the original 45 mm cutout-center dashboard panel goes well with one of the Retro design modern radios,
see their advice.

You may perhaps alternatively go after one of those modern retro radios.

Good luck,   ;)

Great, thanks.  Looks like I can get another panel if needed, I might try one of these modern radio units which look similar to the old radios and these fit nicely as you can adjust the size of the controls to fit.

You can put decals on the retro radio to make it look more like a Becker 🤔
