Scraping sound gear selector fork
« on: January 28, 2024, 18:50:28 »
At this moment I am getting ready for installing my gearbox back in the car.
The gearbox is of a sedan car. The top gearbox cover of my own 230sl.

When turning driveshaft flange, I sometimes hear a light scraping of the selector fork in the top lid against the selector ring in the gearbox.
Sometimes it is there. Sometimes all sounds smoothly.
I am wondering if this is normal, or that I should solve it now the gearbox is still on the workbench before it becomes an annoying sound when driving the car.

Any suggestions how I can get rid of this scraping sound? Or is this acceptable and normal? I did not hear it in another gearbox that I have here.

Please see video s of the sound attached in the zipfile
One video shows that the selector ring is slightly wobbly, but I expect this could be normal when it is in the non engaged position allowing it to wobble in its given space. All advice is more than appreciated!

Thanks!
