Differential noise 230SL
« on: November 01, 2022, 05:38:37 »
Hello Fellow members,

I have temporarily installed an entire W111 differential in my W113 (230SL) at present since my original differential was making too much noise (humm) & we were not in a position to restore the same.

There is a humm even in the temporarily installed W111 diff during acceleration in the 3rd and 4th gears presently in my 230SL. However the 230SL runs almost as it used to with the original differential.

I have found the smaller sized crown & pinion gears required for the 230SL which I intend to use since the original and pinion gears for the 230SL are unavailable. The ratio in these new gears is 3.92 instead of the original 3.75. The part nos of the new crown & pinion I intend to buy are.

Crown 111 353 0312
Pinion 110 3530310

I just wanted to check on these part numbers; one is for a pinion and the other a ring gear. Would these constitute a set? The reason I am asking is because each part has a different Mercedes model number stamped on it.

Any advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Anosh Shroff
