Looks like a cool project on Bring a trailer this morning. It comes with the original engine on a pallet and a Chevy 400ci motor installed so you can still drive around while you fix up the original engine. A modern MB engine would be cool as well to install.

I would expect something like that to be rather dangerous to drive being as it would be very front end heavy and far too much torque for the rear of the car. Our cars already suffer from that but the power ratio isn't so high that they will easily get away from you.
I also expect that some serious modifications had to be made. Might make a decent parts car........

Agreed, it looks rusty and body needs restoration. I would buy it and switch the motor back if the body was more to my liking.

I've seen a lot worse. I reckon at 15K it would be a bargain. Any more and you'd start to question the sanity.

There were 2 or 3 factory W113s with the new 3.5l V-8 made in late 1970/early 1971 as test mules for the upcoming R107.
Back in Germany, in 83 or 84, I saw one that was done by a private owner. There were several around where I lived, that had the twin cam 2.8L. One thing that always bothered me with these, was that the tach did not work.

Where is the source for the info on the 3.5 113 'mules'? I'm aware of the nutty M100 test car that was put together, but I've never seen anything about any other OE V8 installations in any of the 113 books. I'm always interested because when I was living in Germany in the late 1990s, there were several companies that were starting to install very original looking upgrades like power windows, integrated speakers, various modern MB engines etc. Some of these were quite interesting (and quite expensive).

At Williamsburg P-50 Pagoda 50th Anniversary Celebration in Williamsburg, Virginia, there were several V8s that attended. They were well done examples of modified pagodas. I believe the V8s were MB 500, 380 engines.

I recall the information in publications about the "new" R107. It wasn't really relevant to the 113, that's why you will not find it in that material.
I have a picture of one car somewhere. If I find it I post it, with source info. Somewhere in the back of my head it says it was in the Mercedes Benz museum in Untertürkheim.

What ever happened to our member here GRR, he did a lot with the W113 conversions to a V8 engine. He seemed to be very successful with it. Beautiful looking as well.

I just went to the AZ auctions & saw this car. It was nicely done, and went for a premium.

Indeed, sold for almost $200K is definitely a premium for a hot-rodded Pagoda! So much for points for originality.

Oh my, oh my, oh my..... It looks like someone took a small explosive device, put inside the shell, then set it off. It looks like a pagoda that at the whale! So much for not altering the "original aesthetic."!! Youch

I love how the tires are tucked in nicely in the wheel wells in the Sotheby car - 205-60-16 has a great look to them.
The car that started this discussion sold for $22,500 - seems a bit much considering the rust issues, and all the work necessary....

Looks like the standard 14" full hubcap fastened over a chrome 16" trim ring.

What size hubcaps did the W100 600 use?

15'' hubcaps.
At the beginning two-piece, later (from 1968 onwards...) full hubcap.

Uhmm,....was thinking about buying the new15 inch bundts so that might be an alternative .
Could that be steelies from a modern C type 16- 6j- et37 ?
Any ideas about how the 16 inch beautyrings are fastened , and which make they are ?
