hi all

New to this forum as I've just acquired my 'grail' car - a 1976 250SL in Papyrus White with navy MB-Tex. Its a US-delivered LHD car that I've just gone through the pains of personally importing into Australia.

I'm about to undertake a full resto and before I do so, I'd like to know a little more about the car and was hoping to get some assistance with sourcing my data card.

I have spent quite a few hours reading up on this forum before reaching out. I don't have any MB contacts here in Aus who can reach out to Stuttgart on my behalf, and it appears that Classic Centre in Irvine USA only assists those based in the US. Based on that, I was hoping to get any assistance at all from the wealth of expertise on here.

If I've missed any easy solutions to this, apologies in advance and feel free to send me in the right direction.

many thanks in advance
Aharalam

Hi,
I've send an email to thomas.hanson@mbusa.com and Paul.Heule@mbusa.com and got a pdf of my data card back, for free. Just try it!
You can get it from Stuttgart too but it will cost at least 100€.

Hi & welcome !

FYI - I'm also based in Australia. I have also sent a request to Tom Hanson in the Classic Centre USA and received the data card pdf for free.

hi Garry - thanks for the welcome. I've sent my request off so hopefully that all works.

I just joined the MBCV also.

Mine wont be anywhere near ready by October, but please keep me in mind if a gathering is happening later in the year. Would love to come along.

Cheers

Welcome to the group aharalam and congratulations on your new purchase.  I have a late 230SL in papyrus white with dark blue MBtex interior.  Please post some pictures, we all love pictures.  What carpet do you have?

As others have mentioned, Tom is a great resource and should be able to help you with getting a copy of the data card.   I assume you mean a 1967 250SL and not a 1976.

    • Best Pagoda Site second to none!
Hello and welcome to our Group

Here is Tom’s e-mail if you Google the Classic Centre you can also call and ask for Tom. He is a very nice fellow.

If you e-mail him to request a Data Card you need to provide him with proof of ownership, your VIN Number and a photo of your car. He then will e-mail you the Data Card for your car. Good Luck

His e-mail ——> tom.hanson@verizon.net

Is your car actually a W113, or a W107?

As Cees says, you probably need to decide: either 250SL or 1976....

As for the datacard: I am not sure how it works elsewhere, but in Europe:
1. You go to any MB dealer. You show proof of ownership and request a datacard.
2. They take a copy of your ownership document.
3. You get a data card within a few days in pdf format via e-mail.

You do not need any special e-mails or contacts to Classic Center. Same with parts ordering.

Of course there is a huge value of someone like Tom - priceless!. One of the reasons is that, i.e. it was me who had to teach the dealer staff on how to look for parts, what are the correct parts etc. for older cars and Tom knows all of this and is of great help (also for me in Europe!). But for a simple thing like data card - you just need a local dealership, I think, also in Australia.

It is also a good idea to establish good relationships with local dealers as you will need a lot from them on your journey. Discounts among those needs are one of the top ones.

aharalam,
Your Pagoda looks marvelous.
It looks like it has many nice original features.
I must mention, your auto trans shifter and wooden center tray is very unconventional. It might have some added utility, but I have never seen anyone do that. Very creative.  ;)
Beautiful car.
Enjoy the ride !!
