Distributor Help
« on: June 23, 2012, 17:54:47 »
I have just started working on a 63 230SL that I bought. Over time some parts have been replaced with parts from incorrect years (such as a vacuum retard throttle body matched with a vacuum advanced distributor!). The car needs lot of mechanical condition but is rust free. The distributor on the car is number 0 281 185 007. It is an aluminum body vacuum advance distributor. The distributor cap is incorrect and the technical manual does not list the part numbers for replacement parts for this distributor. Can somebody please confirm the part numbers for the cap, rotor, points, and condenser? Does this distributor use the same cap and rotor as the other aluminum bodies distributors even though they are vacuum retard?

Thanks

Hi, Brad,

Part #s for the distributor parts now added to the Tech Manual.

Thanks. The cap part number starts with a 0 rather than a 1? Just wanted to make sure that wasn't a typo as the rest of the part number (and the rotor part number) is the same as the distributor below it.

Yes, Brad,

Typo.

Shud be 1 235 522 194 for the cap

And yes, Dist cap, rotor arm and condenser are the same for both the '007' and '009' distributors, but not contact point sets.

I had no luck finding the point and rotor using the part numbers in the tech manual so I called Bosch. Their current part number to purchase the rotor is 04033 and the points is 01028. Just wanted to post in case somebody else is running into the same issue.
