Starter for 68 280SL
« on: December 31, 2023, 16:29:30 »
Hello, I need a starter for my 68 Mercedes 280SL. Is SR59X the correct one? The site below shows SR59X only fits 69 - 71 280SL.

autozone shows this one fits 68 model. does anyone have any experiences with it? Any recommendation which one to use?

Thanks!

That looks like the correct number based on an OEM part number of 0021517101.  If you have a local alternator / starter repair shop, having your starter rebuilt is an option.  Probably the same cost and hopefully with a more reliable repair..

I agree on the rebuild - I have done that and it worked out very well.  Also supports a local business that you might need later.

Happy New Year !!!
