I just got a NOS red passenger side light and would like to know how to remove the chrome piece that over laps the edge. I haven't looked at it yet but are there any hidden clips that could be damaged? The light should be easy after the trim piece is off. The drivers side one is new already so I wanted them to match.
The guy I bought it from still has one NOS drivers side red light available. Very expensive but if you want it I'll give you his info...

I believe the procedure is to break the old one out! I had some replacements done several years back, and sent them off to Buds Benz in Georgia and let them do the dirty work.

No, I think you misunderstood my question. The trim piece between the light and the lock is the one I need to know how to remove. The tail light is all one piece (glass, chrome, and seal)

The piece is wedged between the lock escudgeon and the tail lamp and should be under both of these parts. It is also screwed on from underneath but sometimes this screw is missing. Remove the lock trim first and it should come off.

Sorry for my confusion. I thought the lens chrome just slipped right under the longer chrome piece.

Badali,
I just had this piece off my car. As stated by 66and blue, there is one screw underside that has to be removed and then take out the trunk lock. The piece then just slips off. :)

with mine, once the trunk lock is out(unscrews from inside the trunk), there's two screws holding that chrome piece from underneath (accessed from outside the car)

Thanks, I check it out. Sounds easy enough.
