Replacing engine mounts stop plate bolt torque.
« on: October 18, 2023, 21:00:53 »
Dear All,

This may have been mentioned here before but I could not find the information. I am in process of changing my engine mounts with the help of the write ups on this forum but what I want to know is that once the mount is removed which comes out with its stop plate attached with a large M12 bolt going through it and upon removing that large bolt with the rubber bush + the stop plate and when in the process of refitting that bolt on to the new mount, how tight should that bolt be torqued up in NM or Ft/lbs.

Thanks

hi Vik, I believe you're referring to the bolt in the photo below (photo compliments of dirkbalter :) ) and also at this link: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=33148.msg241694#msg241694.

Per recommendations here: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=29139.msg211213#msg211213, the bolt should be tightened until it 'bottoms out' in the engine mount and stops turning - I would then simply 'snug it up'. I've never seen any torque specs for these particular bolts. Since the bolts will (to some extent) compress the rubber bushes, they won't be able to vibrate loose.
I've got the early 230 engine mounts which have studs (vice bolts) coming up through the bottom of the mounts; I turned the studs till they bottomed out and then I snugged them up.

Many thanks for the information Charles. I have now fitted them both mounts and now on to the transmission mount next.

Thanks again 🙏
