Title: 65 230sl original docs
Post by: Burns on May 23, 2020, 12:54:20
Hello,

I wanted to share some info I came across on the 230sl I am working on for my grandpa. Got the car running after 12yrs of sitting, now working on some fine tuning.

He is the second owner, purcashed in the early 90's.
The original owner was from Kentucky, however purchased through Mercedes North America while in Germany. Then brought it back to the US.

Attached is all the original paperwork. Invoice, data card, first service record, customs receipt for return trip, etc.

A lot of it is in German. But I found this to be pretty unique, for the story and for having this documentation, which I'm sure is rare.

Enjoy!

Couldnt add all the photos, but there is more there.
Service center maps for Europe and US, along with radio booklet and others.
Essentially any documents that came with the car are still there. Manuals included

It’s nice that you have the docs.  You can go to the tech manual and it will help you compare the docs and de code any you need help with.  Nice you have the metal data plate as these were issued for all Mercedes for a number of years.  Many cars still have them but some are clearly lost.

You have a suit case option on the purchase doc. That is not common.  Does the car happen to have the suitcases?   These are not only valuable but very nice to have if ordered with the car such as this one.

Well one to the forum.

Many niceties in that SA (extras) list!

Suitcases (set of three) as well as transverse seat in the back, Becker radio and white wall tires fitted  8)

Agree, nice options. Unfortunately when the original owner passed his son sold this car to my grandfather and was unaware of the suitcases. So who knows where they went  :'(

I've also seen most of the hub caps painted to match body, but these are not. Just solid chrome. Is that common?

The paint has probably faded and/or been removed. There is a stencil you can use to re-paint them.
