Title: The dropped screw…
Post by: ChrisInNashville on September 05, 2021, 19:18:44
While investigating my hood misalignment:

I popped it up and heard a screw drop.

Concerned that I struggle to find its home, It was an “ough oh” moment when I looked down and saw a very short screw laying in the floor.  Alas, it took a minute to see that the dropped screw came from the hood release/latch:

All four screws were loose and this was the source of the hood misalignment.

This is a freshly restored car.

Two things:
- what might I treat the screws with to keep them tight, and
- should I be concerned that this is happening with other screws of a more critical nature?

Parts list says: hex screws 5x12, washers and spring washers. Did you have spring washers there?

Those are conical head screws.  How could washer and spring washer possibly work?
