Personally, I doubt that Mercedes would purposefully design an "interference hood". I assume this contact occurs from poor hood alignment, collision damage, or similar post manufacturing change.I wasn't aware of these parts, I'll have to check my car!
More important is the rubber cushion that stops metal to metal contact between bonnet and front panel that's absent here.
