Brown 280 in Oslo, Norway anyone
« on: May 27, 2013, 11:40:26 »
I'm at a meeting in our Norwegian office and having difficulties focusing on the subject as there is a brown US-spec 280 SL parked just across the street (Drammensveien), it has unpainted hubcaps, a brown soft top - anyone in here?

You've got to be kidding Ulf  ::)

Does anyone ever say " yes it is me!!

I've almost given up, maybe in the future we should take a side picture of a pagoda and just post that!

Ulf,

I fully understand your difficulties to focus on meeting affairs while a beautiful Pagoda is in sight ;D
In boring meetings a view of pretty curves that Pagoda has can help you kill the time while looking engaged and nearly intelligent ;D

Kemal - seen quite a few norwegians in here and there certainly can't be many pagodas in Norway, so I would think odds are quite good :-)

Hei Ulf, I work in the same street (Drammensveien 126) and I admire the very same car from my office window almost every day - small world!  It looks glorious in the autumn sun among fallen leaves.

It also serves as a painful reminder for me to fix the injection pump of my own 1969 280SL, the German lady has been languishing in the garage far too long.

Solbekk,
Neglecting ladies, especially by refusing good injections, is a mark of disrespect and a nasty flaw…
The fact that she is German (Brown or not) gives you very little absolution ;).

Maybe I should drive my Pagoda there next time instead of flying and we could have an official Pagoda-meeting in the parking lot ;-)
Guess the odds of me making it back and forth without issues in a 49 year old car is about the same as flying with Scandinavian...

Ulf, I already had a pre-meeting this morning  :)  As per the photos: the handsome brown Pagoda parked in its usual spot, the silver beauty next to it is mine and recently acquired - I now need to shift a red 280SL…

As you can see the brown is a US version, and has a regular license plate rather than a vintage registration (I deleted the digits) – meaning it is most likely the owner’s daily driver. Funnily enough the prefix is DK, as in the country code for Denmark.. I had a quick peek inside, it seems to be in a very pleasant condition.

I have actually driven my Pagoda to Denmark for summer vacation, and have even made the drive from Oslo to Malmø south in Sweden a couple of times – 1120 km/700 miles return without any issues  :)  Well, except my girlfriend then whining about the noise, and the heat from the engine. The petrol bill was a bit harsh as well.. but other than that it was a great experience.

Flyair; I guess being mean will not make these German iron maidens keen!

Surely if you're parked next to the brown Pagoda, the owner will notice you when they come out. Even if they are not already members, they can't be completely dis-interested!

Well I only parked there for a couple of minutes while taking the photos, as I have no parking permit for these particular spots (I work across the street). I can get a good look of the car from my office every day though :)

I've seen another dark green SL often parked in the street in a residential area not far from this place, it also seems to be in daily use. I've had a Pagoda since 1998, and use it with religious devotion as a daily driver in the dry (well, more like temperate) months of the Norwegian seasons - usually May through October. Best favour you can do the car I think :)

Still, I hope you and Ulf can meet up with the mystery owner, and persuade them to join our community. Maybe it will be Maria Montell :-)

I was there Tuesday, but I'll be there again (the Leo Burnett office) Wednesday and Thursday next week - will leave a note in his window if the car is there :-)

Hey Ulf, I hear they serve a pretty decent lunch in that building - I'm two minutes away so let me know if you want to have a chat about SL's one day :)

If a lot of salmon and "myseost" is your idea of a great lunch, then yes :-)
I'll let you know when I'm there next time...
