Sticker locations?
« on: April 24, 2009, 10:30:49 »
I wonder if any forum members could let me know where these various stickers should be correctly located? I've numbered and photographed them in these two links:

Many thanks in advance for the help.

Derin,

Its going to depend on which model you have 230/250/280 and also where it was sold originally eg europe, italy UK USA etc.  Do a search on Decals and you will see a lot of discussion on where some of them go.

Ah! Many thanks, Garry!

The car is a U.K 280SL....

I'll look now under "Decals" I was looking before under "Stickers"

Thanks again!

In doing a quick look at the stickers, most of those are not for the 113. The search function should lead you in the right direction. I saw a post a while back from someone asking a similar question with a similar set of stickers. 1 and 4 may be, most of the others are for a 190 SL.

The location of what are technicaly referred to as "Engineering Tags" or "Informational Tags" depends on a couple of things.

Is the car a European specification SL or an American specification. The reason being that begining in 1968, many of the engineering tags that were added to the Pagoda SL were for DOT USA and California cars with smog specification tuning.

I am not sure, however I believe early introduction 230SLs had a very minimun number of informational tags in the engine bay, trunk, and soft top horseshoe boot. Until the later 250SL of 1967 toward the end of production did have valve cover tune up specification tags , radiator high pressure cooling information, oil canister lables. Many other engineering tags were placed on these cars as instructional and warning information for consumers.

I wish I had talent to write a book on this subject. It would be interesting to dissect the lables and the paint inspection markings in the Pagoda production history. It takes more than copying a decal to know were it belongs and if it is correct for the year Pagoda you have.

I was at a well known restorers shop in Escondito California and most of taken 170 photos of collected orginal decals off off cars and some new old stock ones never used. They are always the last and final touch to  a well restored automobile or a refreshing of a nice orginal weekend driver.
