Cam Oiler Pipe - Maintenance?
« on: Today at 18:36:44 »
(I recently had to use a needle to open up some blocked holes in our bathroom shower sprayer.)
I then happened to be watching a youtube video where it was noted that holes in the cam oiler pipe may plug with sludge leading to excessive cam wear. So I got to thinking if this is a concern in a well maintained engine? Should the holes be checked/sprayed/poked during valve adjustment?

I am not a mechanic, but when I have valve cover dismantled, I always crank the engine (with ignition wire disconnected) and check if oil is sprayed from all the holes.

But this is not educated measure, just my initiative.

is that a bit messy in the engine bay?

When you put some towels around, you will survive, at crank speed it is not splashing that much.
