Title: Geneva 1963
Post by: Richard Madison on March 20, 2013, 09:42:02
Here are a few images (thanks to Roy Spencer) of the first days of the Pagoda.

The first three images are of a private Mercedes announcement at the
Chateau des Eaux Vives overlooking Lake Geneva.

Dr. Fritz Nallinger, Chief engineer is speaking.

Looking over the white car is Rudi Uhlenhaut and an assistant.

The Red/Black may be a view of the Mercedes area of the 1963 Geneva show (not sure of this)
and then a Pagoda being driven around the lake by a journalist.

No details about the B/W image except that every seems to be enjoying a first view of the car
except the guy looking at the camera..maybe he thinks he looks better than the car.

Looks like the crowds were the same unruly lot back then  ::)

Fabulous pictures! I noticed the white car has no firewall pad. Did they originally have no pad or just leave it off to enhance the aesthetics of the engine compartment?

Let the record show that the clothes people are wearing are back in style!  :D

Thanks for posting Richard, i actually had dinner at this chateau just a few weeks ago, and rode my scooter up that very same road that the Pagoda is just about to enter.

Giving this post a "Bump" .... it was posted in 2013 by Richard M NYC

The photos are from the first days of our Pagoda when introduced in Geneva.

Richard was one of our Funding Members of our Group, he also manages our Car Registry.

I just came across the thread and felt it was worth while to repost for the many Members (Associates or Full) that joined our mids since 2013 and have not seen those photographs and Richards colourful comments.

Cheers,

Dieter

That b/w picture is from car show IAA in Frankfurt in September of 1963. I.e. not taken in Geneva in March; like the other colour photos were.

I've noticed that side from the absence of the firewall pad, it also appears that the valve cover is painted black??

Don't know about the deal with the firewall pad, but the valve cover painted black was a "show" option.

I have seen one car in the wild, as it were, with that option. The fuel injection lines are also chromed instead of Cad plate. There are a few other items too, but those are the most noticeable.

Or maybe a creative PO?  ;)

I am attaching another, this time the a very well known picture from Geneva 63, so that they are all in one place here.
