Here is some Information pertaining to plans for the next US based PUB/PagodaFest.
With what began as a small informal gathering of a handful of Pagoda enthusiasts in 2002, PUB (Pagoda University Blacklick), as it was eventually called, has since grown into a biennial 2-3 day event attracting over 120 people and 40+ Pagoda's. Event sponsors have been attracted to our gatherings, and we have been fortunate to have had great hosts and organizers. At the Pagoda University Virginia event in 2017, event organizer Alex Djuric began laying track with me about planning a future event in the Chicago area. After Jon Berardi and his team pulled off an exceptional event last year with PagodaFest 2019 in San Diego, their message to me was, "You cannot start planning soon enough." In January of this year, I scoped out what I thought would be the perfect location for hosting an event in the Chicago Area for 2021. The Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook, Illinois. The Hyatt Lodge https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/illinois/hyatt-lodge/chilo is located on 80 beautiful acres which once included McDonald's Corporate Headquarters. The Hyatt Lodge is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and both O'Hare and Midway airports. This location would allow us to have lodging, and main event activities and meals all in one secure location. We also have the option to move indoors if the weather does not cooperate.
Before the outbreak of Covid-19, the plan was to target a late August gathering in 2021. Since no one knows what the future holds, and a European event for this year will likely be rescheduled to September 2021, we believe we will be moving the next US based gathering to October 7-9, 2022. We felt it was important to let everyone know now since some of you may already have been wondering what is in the pipeline for the next US gathering. Anyone interested in assisting with organizing this event should get in contact with me by PM (Personal Message).
We will provide updates on this topic as new information and a sense of certainty develop.

Definitely interested in attending!
-
Oh, ffs.
My brain instantly went.... ooh, Route 66
Now I’m going to have to try and unthink that
-
Somewhere, some place, there are the details, I just don't remember them.
In September 2006 the MBCA held a major event in Chicagoland, one of the western suburbs. It was for the 50th anniversary of the MBCA. Heck, it may have been the same hotel. There was a major concours d'elegance at some gorgeous venue (again the name escapes me) but I know it was Oak Brook. It kicked off the Rt. 66 Tour, another major event. Maybe some of the west coast attendees should try that in reverse...
Alex and I will come from the south... 8)

I am also interested in attending.

It can still be very hot in Chicagoland in August. I am interested, and I would recommend a September date. Oak Brook is a great location!
-
Also interested in attending
-
early, but i would be there.
Mike Mizesko
-
I too wish to attend, and support the suggestion for a September date.
-
Also interested in attending...; prefer the (not-so-hot) September opportunity. ;)
-
I'm in for Pagodafest 2022 but hoping for September temps.
-
Also interested, if allowed to depart from Australia by then. Sept is good.
-
I agree September is the better month.
Tom M
-
Vote for Septembers as well. The MBCA Rt 66 for their 50th was awesome! One of the best trips in my life in my '58! This is where I met Naj who linked me up with W113 group!
-
That absolutely sounds like Naj…
What was the route (don’t say 66)/ trip as I’m sure some people here would like to put some interesting and fun miles on their cars
-
Sounds great. Keep it in the summer.

Michael, There is a book about it one can purchase on Amazon ($285.99 Sales Price is $265- 50 year history of the MBCA). I think the event hotel is proberly mentioned in the book. Perhaps one of our Members attended the event and let us kow the hotel. The book price is just a bit over the top for me ~grin~ I made some screen shots of the book front and back cover I think.

Michael, There is a book about it one can purchase...
Yes, I actually wrote the history of the MBCA for that book, but I don't think they ever sent me a copy.
-
Planning for PagodaFest Chicago 2022 has resumed. Right now we are looking at the 1st weekend in October. The venue location may still be the Hyatt in Oak Brook, Illinois. Format will be similar to past events in Virginia and San Diego.
The facility can handle 200+ people but right now I have told the Hyatt we would anticipate around 150. Once preparations have been made, i will publish information here on how to sign up.
Suggestions on event topics for the tech sessions are welcome including ideas on specific vendors/suppliers you would like to see represented. There is plenty to see and do in the "great city by the lake" so your input on a driving excursion or evening group activity will be taken under consideration.
More information to come.
-
Frank,
One suggested area for a driving excursion would be one including the Batavia, Geneva, St Charles area along the Fox River. Someone local to the area would need to do some development work on an optimal scenic route.
-
I’m currently having various bits of my ‘69 280SL refurbished by Black Forest Benz of the Milwaukee area. It’s my understanding that they have participated in similar get-togethers in the past and would do so again.
-

Michaeal, it seaams to be unthankful work, what can I say. Still I love to do it (helping others), it just feels good.

I've been a member since 2013 but just bought my first pagoda last month. Looking forward to my first national 113 meeting as a car owner! Chicago area in August or September sounds good. --Keith Henry
-
Keith, welcome to the forum! We hope to see you at the 2022 event with your 280SL.
In the meantime we would enjoy seeing some pictures of your new purchase in one of the other threads here. Looks like you searched for awhile before buying. We would also be interested in the story of the hunt!
-
Having recently savoured the delights of the Austrian rally - I also would like to attend this event👍
Regards Graham
-
Looks like something I would be able to attend. September is good for me.
-
Please count me in!
-
Jai and myself should be able to Make this one :)
-
I am interested in attending too :)
-
I am also hoping to be there as well.
-
Thanks for the welcome, neelyrc. I've been away from the forum since mid-September, but will happily post pix and, of course, there is a story of the hunt.
-
Frank
I am available to come early to help set it up. Just let me know.
John.

I would also attend.

Frank,
How is the planning going the Pagodafest front. Any dates known at this point.
For those travelling from a long way afar, to get frequent flyer seats bookings often are needed well in advance. In my case Qantas has opened its bookings after it all being shut off for nearly twenty months of lockdown.
Garry
-
Hi Garry,
Will you be traveling alone or with Kate? Should you be traveling alone I would br happy to pick you up at the airport and take you back there after the event in case you like to rent a car and spend some more time in the area. Let me know.
Dieter
-
Rolf Dieter,
Thanks for the kind offer but Kate is suggesting that after the event we drive the east coast and southern loop back to LA for a month or two. With Covid now in the mix she doesn’t want me there on my own.
I will not be bringing my Pagoda this time as its too late already to arrange without a known date. Export and import certificates takes 3-4 months, prep of the vehicle will be one or more months and shipping at best will be 3 months.
Thats also the problem with Qantas FF that by Xmas it will be too late to get a seat or two if i dont book soon as they only allocate limited seats to FF and they open nine months before and are soon gone.
Garry
-
A formal announcement for PagodaFest 2022 will be coming in January. What I can tell you all is that the dates will be October 7-9, 2022 at the Oak Brook Hyatt just 30 minutes west of downtown Chicago.
-
Thanks Franks for dates, gives me something to work to at least for airfare bookings which is the critical one.
Garry
-
I just corrected the dates in the original 1st post on the topic and my previous recent comment. The correct dates are October 7-9, 2022.
-

I doubt I would be able to attend unless we have a late fall and who could predict that right now? We start soy bean harvest the first part of October and that always comes first. Maybe next time.
-
Hello
Can we defiantly confirm that event is defiantly going ahead on these dates still 7th Oct too 9th Oct and mentioned hotel ?
Thanks
-
I will NOT be attending, if you have a list, please take me off-
-
Rolf Dieter,
Heard that it is called off for 2022?
Garry
-
Hiya Garry
Where did you hear it is not going ahead?
I suppose I should cancel my room then ::)
-
Hi Andy,
Sorry, may have been a bit misleading but was asking it as a question. As there has been absolutely no further comments since the end of last year and given these things take a lot of organisation i am surprised that it is all silent on that front. Was hoping he might have known.
-
Gotcha- Yep hopefully we'll hear something pretty soon.
-
I'm planning on attending PagodaFest this year. Anxious to gain information on ticket sales.
-
Folks,
I know everyone is excited to have a Pagodafest later this year, but given the recent uncertainty with the Pandemic, and the additional planning that needs to occur, we have decided to delay the event until the same rough time frame in 2023. The awesome Venue has been reserved and we are putting a larger team together to bolster the fine advance work that Frank has already done in planning the event. This will give us time to put together the websites, and attract sponsors.
Given that the Euro '23 event has not materialized that I am aware of, I think we can draw more members from across the pond as well. Anyone who would like to participate in the planning committee can send me a Private Message. Much of our discussion can be handled via Zoom.
This should be an affair to remember.
Thanks,
Mike Mizesko

Reservations at the hotel appear to be non-refundable. Anyone else running into this issue?

Hello. I called the hotel Hyatt hotel in Chicago to reserve some rooms for the PagodaFest 2022 and they indicated that nothing is on there calendar for PagodaFest for the Oct 2022 dates? Is this event confirmed? Can you pls post some information on who we need to contact to participate?

Scroll back a few posts on this thread and you will see that it was postponed to 2023

@MMizesko,
We must be less than 365 days from PagodaFest Chicago. What can be shared with the Group?
-
We have dates and location. September 28 5pm to Sunday Morning October 1 departure, 2023.
Location: The Hyatt Lodge campus in Oak Brook, IL
https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/illinois/hyatt-lodge/chilo
Our great committee is meeting bi-monthly. We've got 4 active volunteers on the ground in Chicagoland who are doing a great job. Currently building the website, and filling out the agenda with side trips, dinner venues. Calculating the total costs excluding hotel of the event so we can price the per person ticket prices. We should have that scoped in the next 10 days.
Most of the activities will take place on the 80 Acre campus. We will be soliciting sponsors starting in November. Our goals it to put everything up on a website by the first week in January.

I have the Minister of Finance’s approval to attend🤣🤣🤣

Looking forward to official announcements! I can't wait to get together with the Pagoda Brethren.
-
How close are we to introduction of PagodaFest Chicago 2023 website?
-
Similarly, seeking current info/update please.
-
We are finalizing room blocks for the hotel, and just have to line up the banking/tax stuff with the ticket sales.
We've had a couple of family health issues with our brethren on the Ground in Chicagoland, so anyone willing to help out in lining up tech seminar resources/planning and vendor presentations would be more than welcome. This can be done remotely.
Most of the events and food will be on the 80 acre campus of the old Hamburger University/McDonalds World HQ. Frank did a great job finding this venue.
We are close to launch. I will say that the place is a popular wedding site, so Hyatt is trying to balance us on the head of a pin on rooms. Once we launch, I would strongly urge everybody to book rooms for Thursday night, Friday Night and Saturday night, checking out on Sunday. We will have a brief window to book them so we can all stay on the campus, and our cars will be more secure than sitting in a mall parking lot.
Look for something mid to late next week. We'll announce it here on the Forum and try to MailChimp the links to members as well. This will only be available to our paid members and Vendor/Sponsors. We have to stick with our tax exempt rules under IRS Section 501.
This is going to be fun...

PagodaFest Chicago 2023 Eventbrite Page is Live Now!
PagodaFest will be held September 28 through October 1, 2023 in Oak Brook, IL (a suburb of Chicago) on the Beautiful 80 acre campus of the prior McDonald's World Headquarters, and Hamburger University. The events are held on Friday the 29th, and Saturday the 30th. The campus is secure for our Pagodas and the Hyatt Lodge Hotel is right on the Campus.
It is important to note that due to IRS Rule 501 non-profit rules, only paid members can attend, and we have limited attendees to the first 125 people (including spouses and guests). There will be a waiting list, as in past years. We have arranged for special rates for the Hotel for select nights, but reservations need to be made soon, as the Hotel is a popular Wedding venue and we would prefer if all of our precious cars are on the campus, rather than alone overnight at a Suburban Shopping mall nearby.
The Link for the Eventbrite page is:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pagodafest-chicago-2023-tickets-566897274007
A password is required: Bracq2023!
The Link to make Hotel reservations is on the page as well. Hotel reservations can be Cancelled, but require a credit card at time of booking to hold the room. We got a great deal on Friday and Saturday Night, but rates may be higher on Thursday night when out-of-towners are expected to arrive. Certainly less than rates in the big City Hotels.
Hotel Link:
https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/CHILO/G-PAGO
IMPORTANT HOTEL RESERVATION INFO: THE LINK ABOVE FOR THE HOTEL IS ONLY GOOD FOR THURSDAY 9-28 TO MONDAY 10-2 CHECKOUT. ANY OTHER NIGHTS NEED TO BE BOOKED SEPARATELY ON THE HYATT WEBSITE AT A HIGHER RATE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF ROOMS AVAILABLE AT THE LOWER RATE FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. THURSDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT ARE LIMITED AVAILABILITY FOR THE LOWER RATE. ONCE THEY ARE GONE THE BOOKING MAY SAY THE DATES ARE UNAVAILABLE. WE WILL TRY TO GET MORE ROOMS AT THE LOWER RATE FROM THE EVENTS PEOPLE AT THE HOTEL.
There is also a preliminary Agenda on the page as well.
We'll have more details as they become available, but please buy your tickets as soon as possible and book the Hotel Rooms. Because of the proximity of Chicago to much of the Midwest USA, we expect this event to be fully subscribed.
Please post any questions you may have and we will try our best to provide answers.
The COVID Pandemic delayed our get-together, but now we are looking forward to this long overdue event.
Sincerely,
Your 2023 PagodaFest Planning Committee.
-
hi Mike,
I’ve booked tickets but I’m having difficulty using the link for the rooms it does not seem to work.
-
i"ve heard that. I'll figure it out. meanwhile, don't wait on the rooms. Just CUT AND PASTE THE LINK INTO YOUR BROWSER. THAT WORKS FOR SURE.
MIKE
-
Link added to Forum post if not working properly in Eventbrite...
Mike

MIKE
It does, but for some reason defaults to departure on Monday, not Sunday.
-
Yes, those are just the blocked days. Just change the departure date to Sunday.
Mike
-
The Hotel just added another 30 rooms to our block for the $170 for Thursday night, because had had sold them out. Mostly Double queens. They added more for Sunday too.
We had a bunch of registrations this weekend. Please check the dates and register as soon as you can. This gives us better visibility for the events.
Thanks,
Mike
-
We are almost 25% subscribed for attendees after 2 days of Registration. Please don't get left out. this will be fun. Capacity is limited to 125 due to Restaurants. I suppose we could just order Subway or Pizza....
Mike
-
Mike
Made my Hotel reservation.
Now What ?
Totally confusing.
Tom
-
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see anything even the least bit confusing here.
Go back down to Mike Mizesko’s first post and he has two links. The first link is for the Event Brite page. Read the posting, and it tells you how to get into the Event Brite page; that is to register for Pagodafest. if you want to come to Pagodafest, you must be a full member and you must register—very simple.
The second link is for the hotel. That is to reserve a room at the hotel. Reserving a hotel room, and attending the event are two completely separate and distinct items. Go to that link, or call the hotel directly to make a room reservation. A room reservation will not register you for the event. All it does is reserve a room at the hotel…
So, unless you are local to the Chicago area and staying in your own home, you will probably need to make two separate registrations. One for a hotel room, and one for the event itself.
-
Well, the first confusing thing is that this thread isn't closed and a new one started with the convention information in the first post instead of having to search for it through old posts in a thus far 4 page thread.
-
I'm not 100% sure I can attend but have booked a room just in case for the moment. Does anyone know what the "everbrite" charge is? I only ask because it says that their cost is not refundable but I don't know how much of the registration cost that is.
-
Jordan,
$32 per ticket.... I Know.
Mike
-
John, I'm not sure how to close this topic as it is above my paygrade.
But we just linked the thread to an email to 1500 full members, so think it WAS a good idea until then.
Mike
-
I just registered myself but I didn’t see anything for spouses. Is there a spouse program and separate rate or are the spouses the same $435?
Thanks for everything!
John
-
John,
Since much of the pricing is for food and drinks, it applies to both members and spouses individually. We do have a "clean" comic for Friday Night.
Not sure of your route, but maybe we can caravan and meet you in Toledo area.
We don't have the spouse thing set up yet, but were thinking of a Frank Lloyd Wright tour of his studio and maybe the Robie House. About 20 mins away, but parking is on-street and difficult. maybe a bus or Ubering? We are trying to stay out of downtown with our pricey cars. Reports of carjacking in the city makes us nervous.
Can't wait to see your new color.
Mike
-
FYI, we are at about 50% of capacity for PagodaFest Chicago. Don't wait too long.
Mike
-
25 Pagodas already. A bunch of folks from both coasts and Europe as well as Australia.
There has be a ton in the Chicagoland area.
This will be a gas. Premium, of course.
Mike
-
Not sure of your route, but maybe we can caravan and meet you in Toledo area.
I won't be in a Pagoda, but I'm up for the caravan (convoy).

Thanks Mike. The cost makes sense. Not sure if I will have enough miles on my car to trust driving it that far yet or just trailering it. Really looking forward to seeing you and everyone else there!

Hi all,
Approaching wits end here: Yes, does seem simple, but access to the process is denied me at the very portal, which is to say neither the password given for this event's registration (referencing Paul, the guy who first envisioned it with a conventionally shaped top) nor my own Eventbrite registration password work to provide entrance into the process, though I have been allowed into the hotel's registration site. What am I missing, please?
TIA,
Denny

I'm thinking it may be the exclamation mark at the end of the password.

Denny, exclamation mark is part of the password, try ut again.

Thanks guys,
I've been putting it in the middle between letters and numerals. Will go now to pound out a few more tries.

Not completely without relevance: i have an appointment on Tuesday to initiate cataract correction procedures.

We're into the 70+ zone on attendees. 30+ Pagoda's. Don't delay too long. We'll do another email blast in a couple of weeks which may put us at capacity.
Mike

We'll be over 80 attendees tonight. 45 spots left. fyi.

When you use the hotel link it says there is no availability left. I'm sure that's just an error because that would mean 45/125 people are left without accommodations. How do we go about booking a room? Thank you.

Dreaming of Pagodas 😁

John,
they might be out of kings for those dates. We had 40 rooms for thurs, Fri, and Sat. they should be plenty. try it again and just call me.
Mike

Quick question: If I live in Chicagoland, and I'm only available for the Friday sessions, is there anything like a single-day-pass option for me and my one-owner W113?
-
Bill,
I'm afraid we couldn't handle the complexity of single day passes. I'm sorry. We're just a bunch of volunteer Pagoda enthusiasts and we have to plan headcount for every meal and event.

URGENT: FINAL NOTICE
PAGODAFEST has room for another 40 members. THE HOTEL AND CAMPUS with Secure parking are close to selling out. We chose this location because it was important to have an isolated campus where our Pagodas would be safe. It is therefore important that if you plan to come to PagodaFest this September, that you register and secure a hotel room at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook immediately.
Our committee is also setting events and meals in which we need attendee counts for. With four months to go, the time is now to complete the registration process.
Announcing PagodaFest Chicago to be held on the beautiful wooded campus of the former McDonalds World HQ! We are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Pagoda W113 introduction.
Full Members of The Pagoda SL Group (SL113.org) are invited to make reservations now for Thursday night, September 28, Departing on Sunday morning, October 1, 2023. Attendance is limited to the first 125 people. We expect 50 Pagodas and lots of informational presentations, great camaraderie, and merriment. The events will be almost exclusively on the campus as is the hotel with safe parking. We have secured a block of rooms at the hotel discounted by $50 per night. We are planning an off-campus drive and Saturday dinner at a local restaurant. Tickets for the event include meals and events for Friday and Saturday at a cost of $435 per person. The preliminary agenda is on the reservation page, with a map of the venue.
Link on the Forum is: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=36347.0

Hotel: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/CHILO/G-PAGO
We expect great attendance because of the event’s central U.S. location, and being the first post-pandemic gathering we’ve had. We hope to see you there.
Sincerely, Your PagodaFest 2023 Committee

Good Afternoon!
I apologize for sending this email on the forum, but as a fairly new member, I'm still working on the learning curve for the site.
I had previously signed up for the Pagodafest in Chicago this September, but unfortunately I will not be able to attend. Please advise how I can cancel my reservation and receive the applicable credit, as I cannot seem to figure this out.
As advised in the event cover letter, I will make separate arrangements to cancel my Hyatt Hotel directly.
Thanks and I look forward to the event planned for 2024!
Regards,
Richard Corelle
-
Too bad Bill could not join the group for a social day to see the cars and skip the reserved meal. He is a long time friend and Columbus native, now living in Chicago. I remember when he returned to Columbus for PUB one year.

I plan on attending. Where do I register.....?

Two80crazy,
There are 5 pages of posts in this thread that might be useful, but just go up a few messages to the large one from mmizesko with the links.

Special Announcement
At PagodaFest Chicago 2023, we will have a Raffle for one of Paul Bracq's limited edition of 60 signed and numbered Posters from his 60th Anniversary tribute painting honoring the 60th Anniversary of The Launch of the Pagoda.
Of course, you have to be there on Saturday Night to win.
See you there.

Hello Mike,
I was very excited to read about the Pagodafest in Chicago last April and signed on immediately to attend the event. Unfortunately, circumstances that have recently occurred will not allow me to attend. I have tried to reach out to Eventbrite to cancel my ticket and receive the appropriate refund, but it has been impossible to contact them. They have a customer support number, but that is a dead end. American express provided me with a link to a 24/7 chat line, but that URL must no longer exist.
Knowing that the Pagoda SL Group is the event organizer, I hope that you can help me here!
My Eventbrite order number is: #6517863759, which was issued on 4/27/2023, for the amount of
$ 435.00.
I am really sorry that I cannot attend this year, but hopefully something on the East Coast will be set up for 2024, and I look forward to that!!
Sincere Thanks and Regards,
Richard (Chic) Corelle
-
Richard,
No need to take further action. Can issue a refund, less the eventbrite fee of about $30. Ill do it by tomorrow.

Having never attended a full Pagoda weekend, I'm wondering about dress code. I'm assuming there isn't much of one, but what about the evening dinner. Should I bring "business casual?"

I don't believe we ever discussed this topic before! I'd say, dress as you see fit and for the weather. Check the weather before you leave. Most had some kind of "club casual" for inside dinners in the evening, and less formal than that (golf/Tee shirts and shorts) for outside activities during the day...
-
Ok, thanks Michael. I'll leave my pagoda-badged tux at home.

I get that aaaallllll the time. Maybe because people see the "double d" (insert jokes here) and their mind switches it to the more common Todd, or maybe it's because of the R and T being next to each other on the keyboard.
Don't get me started on all the mistakes made with my last name. It's great listening to telemarketers try to pronounce it.

Mike,
Due to a change in circumstances, Kate and I will not be able to attend the Pagodafest in Chicago this time First time we have missed a Pagoda gathering either in USA or Europe for fifteen years but have needed to commit our resources to this new house we are doing up.
Do i need to go back through Everbright or are the event committee able to cancel our booking. I will also need to go to the hotel and cancel.
Garry
-
Ive got you on the PagodaFest refund, Eventbrite keeps about $30 per ticket tho. You'll have to cancel the Hotel either by phone or online by following your reservation confirmation email.
So sorry we'll miss you.

Most had some kind of "club casual" for inside dinners in the evening, and less formal than that (golf/Tee shirts and shorts) for outside activities during the day...
Mr. Mizesko, or anyone else involved in Pagoda Fest planning,
Do we have a detailed agenda of activities??
-
Yes Rodd. We're putting the presentation schedule together at our meeting tomorrow night.
We've got 10 Sponsors, so trying to get things lined up.
Basically it is arrive Thursday night, drinks and hors Doerves at the hotel bar .
Breakfast buffet Friday, then walk around meet and greet. Late am presentations, then Lunch, then more presentations. then Dinner and a Comedian on the campus.
Friday, we booked a 8:45am party bus and a tour for up to 25 wives and anyone really, of the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio and a walking tour with docents of 7 homes in Oak Park, then lunch down there, then back about 3-4.
Saturday we have a driving tour heading to Rt 66, but not that far. hitting park for pics, then museum, then lunch, then back. Dinner that night on the campus.
Sunday Depart.
I'll update the eventbrite page soon.
Should have merch available in next week or two. will bulk ship to event to save shipping. will send emails to attendees to confirm merch links, Wright tour, and choice of meals for dinners.
Hope that helps, we are almost there.

Bob, that's GREAT! Fuel issues always popular topics for learning!

I noticed in a Pagodafest-related email that there's a "Frank Lloyd Wright Tour' during the event. Since I live around the corner from Wright's Home & Studio, I wonder if it's on the route. Is there a link to this?
-
Are you going to make sandwiches for the tour? ;)
In post #126 above, it says, "Friday, we booked a 8:45am party bus and a tour for up to 25 wives and anyone really, of the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio and a walking tour with docents of 7 homes in Oak Park, then lunch down there, then back about 3-4."
Is your home one of the seven? :D
-
It will be a nice tour for anyone with even a passing interest in architecture or Chicago history.

This pic is of my last one I built. Love the Prairie School.
-
Mike, If you don't hold a spot for my lady on the home tour, I'll never get her to another car event, ever! I may not even get her to ride home with me. :(
-
Not to Worry Ray. Consider this a registration for her.

Mike,
Do we need to (or is there some way to) reserve a spot on this tour for a spouse? (I'm in the same situation as Ray. ;) )

email going out in a couple of days, but I'll put you down for 1 spot.

Cool, looking forward to it!
-
Hi Mike!
My wife Blair would love that kind of tour, I’ll keep my eyes open for the email!
-
Any chance Michael McKinney of Black Forest Benz up in Milwaukee is a sponsor or presenter? He expressed some interest a while back when I mentioned it to him…
Here’s a link to one of their recent Facebook posts about a Bosch fuel injection pump test bench they just acquired and rebuilt:

Michael was lined up to do an Injector presentation, but got way behind on business, and had to withdraw. We have Bob Youngman, and Vintage Auto {parts (Nelson and Babak) who are covering the topic.
Next time, maybe.
This will be a fun event!

Here's a copy of what we just sent to attendees. FYI.
-
Regarding the Frank Lloyd Wright Spouse Tour, I have attached the mailing that I just sent to Attendees.
I did record those who already asked to go, and marked the times. Please respond to the email though.
Evidently, this is going to be extremely popular. This tour was meant to be for the Spouses and guests, just like in the past, so they didn't have to memorize injector specifications and cylinder head bolt tightening torques. I have gotten requests from a bunch of guy members, who we will accommodate if we can, but only after they spouses are taken care of.
After my initial Agenda email, many have sent emails to me to register, and we will handle this as follows, given the Tour Limitations, Bus Size, (and our budget).
We will prioritize Spouses first, and then make a waiting list for the guys (or members), in the order that people asked for a spot. We want to offer the tour, but don’t want to vacate the event for our Presenters and Sponsors.
If you are coming in from afar, you may want to extend your visit and see this. You don't get to see such art and architecture every day.
Best laid plans....
Mike

Mike,
Maybe initially it wasn't clear to all that vendors & presenters would be doing their thing while the tour was at the same time for spouses. That's clear now, and that's great that you're handling reservations manually to ensure everyone enjoys the event. That's what makes these events work.

Hi,
If anybody has a Pagoda that they wish to rent out for this event please PM me.
many thanks
-
A Pagoda is not required to attend, and this event is not focused on driving the cars.
-
my daughter will also be in Chicago for a wedding and my wife plans on meeting her downtown on Michigan avenue Saturday morning. She is planning on taking an Uber downtown from the hotel. Is that the best way to get there? I have no idea what traffic is light on a Saturday headed downtown.
Thanks for the help

John., I suggest sending a PM to Frank Koronkiewicz or Richard Cooke, locals.

Will do thanks Mike

Depending on her comfort level - you can also use the train. There is the end point Blue Line station at Forest Park that goes to downtown, a number of stops, but it gets you there. Hard to beat the price.
-
Hard to beat the price.
And the traffic. My kids take the train all the time from the city to the airport. Never an incident.
-
John K wants his wife to leave from the hotel (Oak Brook Hyatt), not the airport. The Blue line runs to the airport. There is no train close to the hotel that I know of. Taxi or Uber is best on Saturday. Traffic is a constant problem in Loop Chicago (downtown) however on Saturday the traffic is usually not an issue in the morning until about noon.
(Not a local, have been working in Chicago for the last few months)
Blue line does run to Forest Park, but its a long way from hotel.
-
Thank Gents! Uber is.
John K

The Hinsdale rail station is about 2-3 miles due south of Oakbrook. Hinsdale is on the main east/west Aurora to Chicago commuter rail line. Check train times on line.
-
Looks like excellent, warm Chicagoland weather through the weekend, lows in the 60s, highs in the mid-to-upper 70s.
The various light-rail CTA "L" lines don't go anywhere near Oak Brook (and the Blue Line is the far end of the line from O'Hare). Even the quite-cool Metra heavy-rail commuter line is out-of-the-way. The Oak Brook Hilton used to offer downtown shuttles, but I don't know if they do now. In lieu of some arrangement through the hotel, I'd swing for a Black Uber and enjoy the ride.
And if anyone's looking for the best top-down Chicago weekend drive of all, it's surely duSable Lake Shore Drive -- 16 uninterrupted miles along or very near the Chicago shoreline with Lake Michigan and skyline views of downtown Chicago visible for about half the ride. Cyclists and strollers on parkland all along the east side. Some of the best high-rise architecture you'll ever see, and famous places like the Field Museum, Museum of Science & Industry, Soldier Field, Lincoln Park and, soon enough, the South Side's Obama Presidential Library.

This is one great city. Enjoy.

The party has begun. Soooo fun catching up with old friends and making new ones.
We've taken over the bar and spilled out to the patio.

Hey All, I just got back in the US/Chicago. Wasn't sure I would be in town to participate in this. Is it still possible to register/join tomorrow?
Last one I made was at Blacklick years ago🫣!!!

I'm sorry that long-standing commitments made my visit to PagodaFest 2023 so brief today. Audrey and I enjoyed talking with a number of you, and just seeing so many 113s, from so many places, was a real treat.
We hope the group who toured the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio enjoyed their visit to my Oak Park neighborhood.
And, finally, I propose a toast for this evening, from an original Pagoda owner who wishes he could have spent more time with all of you.
Cheers!

Discussing each other's cars and comparing condition, configuration, an everything else is the best part.

Some well known faces... Have fun, all of you. And just as an aside... watch this site. Planning for the 2024 European Event has begun and expect early announcements on this forum in the next two weeks or so...

Sorry i was not able to attend this year, first in nealy 20 years. Am seeing lots of familiar faces and looks like a great turnout. Maybe next year in Europe.🤙

Looks like a great group of W113s and great top down weather.

A big thanks to all who were responsible for putting on a great 2023 PagodaFest. Informative and entertaining, fun driving day with great sights to see. Even a stop for a free gift from WeatherTech. Nice to meet board members and see all the Pagodas.
