An answer to you must have been lost within M-B Classic organisation..? Because, the German Club Pagode and other enthusiasts have since way back compiled a List and there is an ongoing discussion and update of this NLA List of W113 parts with the Classic Center.

Mike,
I recently got the short fuse from Millers.  you need to call them and be sure they know what you want or they may send the wrong one.

Good to know.  The M-B dealer across the street says they are NLA.

According to the dealer, the Chrome Cowl Vent Cover is no longer available (even in Germany).

Checking many sources (such as Millers), I came up dry.  But then I lucked out! Bud's Benz had one left so drove out to Douglasville and picked it up today (mine has a small piece broken off so rechroming wasn't an option).  It's amazing how precious it seems knowing it's the last one.    Hopefully, DB will re-manufacture it soon.

For me some of the most annoying NLA parts are little items, such as:

1.  Correct sun visor clips for an early 113
2.  Correct vertical-handle fresh air vent handles for an early 113
3.  Correct seat back tilt release black plastic handle for a 113

On all of these, MB will gladly substitute the incorrect part (which won't even function in the case of the visor clips).

MB may be substituting parts without checking all the applications.
In the case of the flex-disc, when I went to install the round one that substitutes for the hexagonal one, the tranny flange bolts hit the rear tranny cover! I was lucky to then find a hexagonal one, but they are becoming more and more rare.

On some flex disc aplications you need to use two washers on the bolts that are long enough to hit the rear tans cover. This is standard practice on a 190SL.

Thanks Dan. While I considered using more washers, I just wasn't comfortable with having to do this to use the round flex-disk.

I'd like the list to include all-red tail-light lens assemblies.  I've tired of replacing the useful transparent red "lens tape" covering a small hole in my lens.  Recently, I thought of searching for a red bulb to use instead of the clear (white) bulbs used for the tail light having recalled seeing orange, blue, red, and even purple lights sold in parts stores for modern cars...I'd sense a blessing if I found one with the same bulb base so it'd twist and lock into the socket though.

Lilly, the all red lenses are available.  They are reproductions and I believe that this is why MB no longer makes them.  You can get them from Gernold at sltech.

MB has asked Will Samples for a list of NLA items. He has posted this through the Gullwing group and several other groups and individuals on his roster. I went through the list and condensed the items and havce sent this to him.

Keep on posting, but this went out on 3 Sept 08.

I got some info from Will this morning and I told him we were looking at the same things. So maybe MB is looking at this after all but producing some parts won't happen because the low numbers won't add up. Things like lighting and other things that are needed to keep the car runing safely shouldn't cause you to quit driving your car.

These are very hard to find used. But they usually never go bad. They're made of some kind of hard cardboard, and the two halves are stapled together. The driver-side nozzle is a royal PITA to remove (wiper linkage needs to be completely removed). I suppose they can get damaged during removal and installation.

Have you checked with Bud's or Miller's for a used part? Dan (Benz Dr.) has a parts car-- perhaps you can check with him?

OK, here is an obscure part that many of us could use:  116 693 00 14

This is a clip that is used to secure the top of the cardboard pieces on each side of the trunk to prevent them from hanging loose and potentially tearing.  Two are required, one for each side.

Unless some one knows of a supply I was unable to buy an ignition switch for early 250.

Hi Mike,
this is interesting. I was not aware that the cardboards in a 230SL where attached. I thought that they are held in place just by pushing them behind the lips in the bottom and behind the rails for the weatherstripping on top.  Although it sure would be nice to have some clips that fix this boards in place. How is it on a 280SL?
If the 116 part is NLA, perhaps the next generation might work, for example, a 126 693 0014?

You have described better than I could how the top of the cardboards fit behind the trunk lip channel.  The clip attaches to the edge of the channel and holds the edge of the cardboard in place so that it does not drop down and out from behind the channel.  I have tried ordering these clips from my usually very competent local M-B parts guy.  The part# is a good # and only costs a dollar or two but each time he places an order a quantity of them shows up as being in Germany but then the shipment is backordered and then is purged out of the ordering system after a time.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the chrome ring around the ignition switch. This looks like it would be an easy part to make, if one were in the business of stamping out similar parts.
