Poll- Favorite color combo for the Pagoda?
« on: September 27, 2004, 12:24:47 »
I would like to here about your opinion on what you think is the "perfect" color combination for the 113.  Please mention the color name and it's code.  If you do not know the code I'm sure some of our members will be able to assist.

I thought this might be a fun way of learning color codes and hearing your opinions on what you think looks good. :D

I'd have to vote for 050 white exterior and 132 maroon interior.  Maybe because that's what mine is.

My dad has a 69 blue metallic but I don't know the color code w/ parchment interior.   Very nice...

Dana, what shade of blue is it? Light blue would possibly indicate DB 906. One of my personal favorites.  Or is it a medium or dark blue?

Anyone know if the maroon is available?  Last time I checked GAAH they had discontinued it. :(  :(

Hands down--ivory exterior with deep red interior.  It's a classic color combo that Mercedes used for years.  Check out the cover of the latest issue of "The Star."  It features the 300sl with, yes, ivory exterior with red leather.
Silver with black leather makes my heart beat also.

Regarding your earlier post, Auto Interiors of Europe still offer the maroon interior.

I am attracted to the blue metallic colors.  See the attached file.  The top is DB363.  Bottom is DB906.  I prefer the darker blue, but either color with Parchment (off white) interior is spectacular.

That's great info Don! I'll have to call GAAH and find out why they have discontinued it.  As for silver and balck, it's a very sharp color combo!

I recently saw a white with black interior and black hub caps that looked very nice!

I'm a purist. I'm still partial to the color that is synonymous with Mercedes' racing cars: DB 180G, aka silver-grey metallic.

I don't own a silver Pagoda anymore, but if I did, I think I'd be tempted to fit an ivory wheel along with blue tartan plaid cloth inserts in the seats in a nod to our big brother, the 300 SL.

Doug, what color is your new car?  I was looking at your bumper pics and it sort of looks silver.

my vote is for the silver 180 exterior and black or red interior.  It is both classic Mercedes and very classy looking....my 69 280 is a correct factory 2 tone with 180 exterior with 542 (dark red)hard top and hub cap color, and the red interior......very very sharp looking car

While I don't have a favorite color combo, I thought I'd add that some interior pieces are only available in black today...so if you are restoring a car, keep that in mind.  That's whey I have a black interior!!

I just gutted the interior and an underwent a bare metal respray of my 280sl. I love the combination of brilliant silver and red leather interior.

I figured as long as the car was stripped to the metal I may as well make it a color I like. (while trying to stay historically accurate)

The first Pagoda I ever saw back in the 60's was white with a green interior and matching dark green hardtop. This became my ideal of a Pagoda for several decades and I never saw another one like it.  Fifteen years ago I first saw the car that I now own and fell in love with the color combination.  It is the only Brown Pagoda that I've ever seen with a Cream interior that goes perfectly with the Light Beige hardtop and hubcaps.  Every other one I've seen has had a more saddle colored interior.

It's a light metallic blue.  Same as the car on the back of Pagoda World #2

This is not an opinion, it's a fact.

The best looking car for elegance, sophistication, and downright beauty is (don't argue) Tobacco Brown with Cognac interior.  Exterior:423; Interior:140; Brown Carpet; Beige Soft top 745.

This just happens to be the colors of my car, merely a coincidence.

By actual statistical survey at car shows, when arrayed near other Pagodas, passers-by say 2 to 1, "I like your color better."

I can supply sworn affidavits for this if needed. Also many comments like, "What a great color, and "Oh, I like that color"

If you want to be jealous, click on the link below. Go to the bottom of the link page for a photo of the beauty.  I've got it!

Mike Hughes says,

........and when I got my DB050 car it had green carpets (non original) but black interior and black hardtop. I changed the carpets to black but felt the black hardtop was a bit dull so I painted it dark green !!

It's a very amateurish job as I use it max for about 2 months in the year, but the combination is excellent looking. I will eventually get the entire car painted and keep the combo. I'll try to post some photos.

Probably too dark to see the colour !

Well Richard...you are entitled to your "facts", and you've almost got them right....but I'm afraid the exterior really should be 501  "winerot" or burgandy, like a fine wine instead of chocolates, though 834 Moss Green Metallic is a close second. Of course I have it on the greatest authority that this is the best color combo.....my wife :D

If you live in a sunny climate Light Blue (DB906) with dark blue interior and a blue soft top.. Next would be silver and black.(my next Project!)

My 1971 280SL is Cinnamon with Parchment interior, and it gets raves everywhere, in spite of quite a few paint chips.
I think an interesting poll would be "why did you buy the car you own?" Color would be a possible answer, of course. On the other hand, I think a lot of guys and gals have just fallen in love with their car and for that reason, think their color is the best.
Personally, I think picking the best color combination is like picking the most beautiful girl at an international beauty competition; they're all wonderful, each in her own special way.
Now, no one has mentioned the combination of my late 450SL: Brown with olive drab interior. That was simply terrible.
