1971 280sl Vin #
« on: March 12, 2010, 19:32:50 »
Hi,

I have had a 1971 280sl for approx. 20 years. I've retired and moved to Florida and downsized my residence, so I'm thinking since now I have 1 Garage instead of 3, I might want to sell my 280sl. My question is my Vin # is 11304412023882, so you can tell there were only 3 made after mine. Could mine be the last one sent to the USA
and does the late Vin # make it more valuable.

Thanks for your consideration.

Scott

We had this discussion some time ago when the person who had the last production car (in the USA) asked that question and then tried to sell the car for an excessive amount of money without any success what so ever. I believe he tried to sell it several times.  The vehicle in question did not have its original engine however but we have also discussed this on the forum and appeared to come to the conclusion that in W113's it was not a high value item.

I think the bottom line is that the condition of the car is the thing that will decide its value. The better it is the more you are most likely to get.

I guess it is a bit like having a penthouse, everything below is a sub penthouse but real estate people still like calling the next floor down and sometimes the third floor below a sub-penthouse.
