Title: Behind the dashboard
Post by: 280slPagoda on June 29, 2020, 21:11:13
I recently replaced most of the instrument lights with LED. During removing and reinstallation of the instruments the underlaying wiper mechanism stole a lot of the space needed for my fingers. I found I got much more room for my fingers if I started the wipers and stopped them with the ignition key when they were in their most right position. (I have a left hand drive 280 SL).
Then remove battery connection! For safety reasons, never operate wipers with any bodypart i e fingers under the dashboard!

That's sounds like a good tip.

However, wont the self-parking feature of the wiper motor send them wipers back to the starting position?
(I am trying to get my wiper motor rebuilt at the moment because the self-parking function is not currently working)

I think the self parking feature needs power to perform its task, so when you cut it off with the ignition key, as described, the wipers will just go dead.

Good idea, 280sl Pagoda!
