What car is THIS?
« on: November 15, 2012, 18:02:58 »
In my junk mail I came across this ad for overpriced Italian menswear.

I cannot identify the vehicle.  But I do know this much:

The fenders are '53 Buick and the tail light lenses are '56 Dodge!  YUK YUK

Looks like a cross between something that was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and Pininfarina.
No idea what it is - Cross between a Ferrari 250 California Spyder and a Triumph Spitfire?

I would also say Lancia or probably one of the numerous one-offs done by Italian coachbuilders - it is most unlikely American of origin

A freind called me up to say that there was a red pagods in a local showroom that he saw when driving by.  A couple days later he called me up again to say that it was a hardtop model and it was stunning.  I had to go see it, so last night I braved rushhour traffic and the rain and found instead of a red pagoda, an early 60's Maserati 2500.  The rear end looked just like this picture except for the lights.  It had the metal fender edges, low bumper, dual exhaust and shape of the trunk.  A quick search found tail lights similar to what is in the picture on a late 50's Maserati.

My last guess - late 50's maserati.

Could be right Bonnyboy although it sounds like a Maserati 3500 which I believe was both styled by Allemano, Vignale and Touring (I think Michelotti of Triumph TR4-5 and Spitfire fame also took a shot at it). Although completely irrelevant, doing "mystery car searches" is really great fun :-)

...talk about coincidence!  Yesterday, my new copy of Hemmings Sport&Exotic came in the mail.  Want to guess what's on the cover?  Yes, the Maserati 3500... :D
